Just Random Popular Games - I can't think of clever topic title

Bonjour friends, we have a few threads around RPG games are some are warranted like Octopath Traveler at the time (not sure how much the thread will be used for II, as it just Balla who has the game?) and some series like the Trails maybe should have its own thread if you're planning on playing Zero, Azure or Nayuta.

That doesn't mean there's not RPG games coming outside bigger IPs or have some buzz around them due to devs etc like

Out soon as in this month, I've heard abit about it as feel there's a demo on STEAM or was previews recently where it mentions Persona-like elements  


What I made thread for as it's from a bunch worked on Mana, Xenoblade games etc though famitsu gave it 7/8/8/8


Much like TT above Loop8 is from people that worked on Lunar, Grandia etc


The newest announced one CRYMACHINA is meant to get a western release this year


Will they be any good who knows, I've stuck to ones coming to Switch but is things like Granblue Relink coming as well and bound to be more in the RPG genre.

Good work Mas, we probably did need this topic for half of the forum to ignore. (Can I suggest 'popular' for the title? ) All of those trailers hammering home why I pick subs over dubs in all of my RPG experiences though, Xenoblade and its comedy excellent British accents aside.

I guess my current RPG experience is Chained Echoes (a JRPG by a Western team, bulky though) and now Octopath 2, so I don't have anything to contribute to this topic at the moment. I will though!

Same oddly and out of the ones I've brought up, TT is the one I've got my eye on the most.

I don't know what any of those games are, but from the thumbnail on the YouTube video, I can say I hate them.

Oh and Agnea from Octopath 2 is becoming the Ha'anit of that game. Sigh.

Well Mato turned out to be meh at a 60 on Open with only 31% recommending it, let's hope the next RPG coming it good.

And that I have coming Octopath II (wasn't sure to post here or the Octopath thread, as that bit of Agnea the newest post on the game) even though got lots to play, along with not really keeping up with the game.

I'll keep you company in the Octopath thread Mas, I have plenty to say about it and nobody to say it to right now.

I have started Xenoblade Chronicles 3 so will probably only have time for Octopath Traveller 2 if I ever get furloughed during another pandemic.

While I am overall enjoying Octopath 2, we're talking a game where I'm wondering whether it's a 6 or a 7/10 compared to the best (read: my favourite) non-Mario RPG of all time.  Good choice Rum.

I have wrapped up the eight stories in Octo 2, and a new final story has opened up.  That's what I needed.  That's what I want to see.  I hope it's not rubbish. (Decent chance it won't be, only one of the eight paths has been rubbish.)

Collating a couple of posts about the Personaverse battle systems specifically.

I understand these takes without fully being able to appreciate them.  You two both really like the link system: I find it a pretty basic addition that backfires on me as often as it benefits.  As for the speed, I can absolutely enjoy that!  But not at the expense of a deeper system.  Pokémon may be slower, heck definitely is slower - but between the deep type chart, held items, weather/terrains, single and double battles (more double battles please), entry hazards, plus other aspects that I may just be more familiar with in Pokémon so don't want to comment on, the Personaverse combat feels a bit style-over-substance in comparison.  Also most Pokémon are so much more appealing that anything or anyone I've fought as in a Personaverse game so far, and you don't fuse and get rid of them.

These are games that almost always goes to more than 40+ hours playtime, and most if not all of the gameplay is fighting.  I don't think demanding a bit of depth to the system is a hot take! (Also please note that I haven't listed the RPGs I've played with worse battle systems than the Personaverse, there are certainly a fair few of those too.)

Is depth though as you need to know the weakness etc to combo it all along, oddly though you bring up gameplay which is still the dungeons in Persona 5 etc but to me the core is the social aspects etc. Think of it a tad like the recent 13S, we've just played.

We have a date and soon for the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters on console of April 19th, and been a few updates since PC release such as a new pixel font, switch between the original and new background etc

Price though is $11.99-$17.99 per game, or all six can be purchased for $74.99 making it sort of expensive yet FFVI for £13 on its own does seem a good price.

Bloody hell.  That's a lot for the whole thing for sure.  Also no way is a remaster of FFI worth the same as a remaster of FFVI.

I don't think knowing the weaknesses is depth enough for me.  Or if it is, it's micro-scale depth, not macro-scale: knowing something about each monster, rather than the system itself being deep.  Not what I'm after on its own (and Octopath does that better with its breaking system regardless, plus Octo 2 allows you to speed up the combat).  

Anyway I've started Persona 4, so we'll see whether I find the combat any better than that.  I'm immediately more impressed with the anime-style opening, ability to actually move around, plot device, and Chie than I was with P3P... and immediately less impressed with them showing you a girl in a bikini near the start for no reason.

I think FFI-II are $11.99 with III-VI are $17.99 based on steam prices. Though I've gone and pre-ordered the English Asia physical on Switch, as can't get from Square Store any more.

A fantasy JRPG from Studio Zero should be something special

Ha see I was watching the trailer for it and I just coudln't get over how janky it looked. I think it's gonna be a bit of stinker personally, but I hope I'm wrong.

Also that's never coming to Switch.

It's actually still not been confirmed for anything but Xbox and PC, where the new Persona games have.

Be very odd if this is a Xbox exclusive and not in Game Pass, also for them not to mention it either.

Will say it's getting some Japanese Showcase on the 20th, I believe.

Not played many Star Ocean games and when I saw Square had posted the logo early for this, I wasn't fussed after the first game's remaster but this getting basically the remake treatment in 2D-HD well keen.

I bought that SOSSR being a 2D-HD game, and got on PS5 but playing it on Portal which I'm 3.5hrs in.

Think Balla you would like a lot (I say a lot but it be a 6/10) from you playing Octopath, Live A Live etc (not Triangle the best one) and SOSSR does seem like it be a great game on Switch with the artstyle and on feels of a portable game.
