PostSubject: NGamer Issue 13 (September 2007)   Sat 30 Sep 2017 - 15:33

SEPTEMBER 2007

Sneaking in on the final day of September, there's a feeling of the calm before the storm ten years ago as the big releases approach in October and November. I mean, why else would Boogie be a cover feature, although saying that, Far Cry was a cover a year earlier and that was supposedly dreadful. This wouldn't have happened in the N64/NGC days - it's like putting Universal Studios on the front! "Forget Wii Sports"?!?

There's certainly a lot of film tie-ins given the summer holidays have just finished, and a few PS2 ports in there too. It's interesting how film tie-ins simply aren't a thing nowadays.

*REVIEWS*

Good (70-84%):

Not so bad (50-69%):

Mostly useless (30-49%):

There's another great piece this issue called "CHEAT", and it talks about AI and rubber-banding in titles like F-Zero GX and Mario Kart. The only game of interest to me is Scarface but it looks like a GTA-clone capitalising on the renewed interest in the Pacino film that happened in the early 2000s. Vice City effectively was GTA: Scarface.

Poor Graham Norton - he's a national treasure now. Have to admit to not having played any of those games, though I was interested in Big Brain Academy. Wanted to show off my big brain. Embarrassed

Oh boy. What a month.

But srs Joneses, I'm going to grab that issue and read the heck out of it until SURPRISE PREDICTION what I assume is going to be the ultimate or penultimate GamesMaster arrives.

What an awful month of games.

I think the movie games now are all on mobile along with the odd download title.

I really enjoyed the Scarface game even though activating the sweary bullet time wouldn't always work & I'd be left furiously waggling the wii remote & nunchuck. A very good port job which wasn't always the case on wii.

In all fairness, the DS games fared slightly better...

I haven't got to the CHEAT article yet, but I remember it being a slightly-philosophical belter - the kind they were really good at at this time.

A few highlights so far::

There's not much that I've played here either, although I'll echo Jaster's thoughts about that Scarface game - it's pretty good. Big Brain Academy is worth the 0.000001p that you can get it for these days, it's a good laugh.

Does anyone know where I can read this issue online?

I had that Harry Potter game. I remember having a bit of a laugh with the motion controls, but I think they're bang-on with their review in that it was pretty shallow in regards to actually going about Hogwarts. The initial novelty of "oh wow, it's Hogwarts" faded pretty quickly.

I'd also totally forgotten about Boogie. Ah, early Wii games.

I think this is when my "oh nooooooooo..." senses kicked in regarding the Wii.

I'm through this now - once again, testament to how good this mag was, it's entertaining despite the "quality" games on offer at this stage of the Wii. That article on cheating is awesome. As is the Pokémon article. Those bloody banned episodes. Misty in a swimsuit contest - I can't imagine how this would get worse for them to market abroaOH WAIT YES IT CAN GET WORSE. And I wonder who it was who stole the cereal from Los Angeles, only to find it available in Waitrose when they got back?

Cappa, I'm sorry, I don't know where this is online; if you want me to scan anything and/or read you it over the phone, let me know.
