Is that alright? My previous post sounds arrogant as all heck. Truth be told, I had a Neo-in-the-Matrix-like run, and assume that, because I couldn't ape it, it's going to be unfair. I am probably going to be unpleasantly surprised!

I don't even have a worthwhile score to post. I am miserable at Donkey Kong and I've not scored above 20,000 yet. Pitiful.

I won't bother posting a screencap. My best attemp is 11000 points. This game is not easy

Agreed! I genuinely can't fathom how Smurf got 50K, let alone the New King of Kong's score further up in the thread.

Any tips lads? I don't want to throw in the towel quite just yet.

That game is hideous. They could have at least tried to animate their gorilla. I'd inevitably still suck at it though

I never understood the player's* weird sticky-out arm! I've just posted in another topic about old British computer games sometimes missing the mark; it's hard to make an argument for them after that! The noise that the springy thing makes on the 75m level is the stuff of legend in my family.

I like the jingles in that game - very chirpy!

Right... reckon I'll fire up an effort or two (so I can at least get the pity third place position) over the next week and a bit and cycle to another game on December 10th. You have been suitably warned folks, get those scores in!

I honestly couldn't say, I just try to take my time I guess, I'd honestly say only the barrel one is tough and the other two are just knowing the pattern.

Things are really picking up for me since I gave up on getting points and focused on surviving the levels. It's a harsh existence but it's slowly paying off. Not even close to 50k though

It's time for Gradius! I'm feeling decent about this one as I do like my shmups, but my first run was pretty miserable!



If anyone has any tips for getting past the bit with all the rocks, I'd appreciate the pointer!

Funnily enough... that's probably the right advice.

The laser upgrade seems to have a piercing shot effect, so I guess that's what I'll need to have for surviving the rock onslaught.

I've recently tried to play through Gradius, as I want to experience all the NES loveliness; however I can't get past the Easter Island heads on stage 3. As for that bit with the volcano, get the missile that shoots downwards, hopefully the forcefield jobby, and hide in the top left hand corner of the screen. That's what my saviour* told me.

I think this might be my round!



The volcano bit was so much easier hiding in the top left - I was hugging the left side of the screen in line with the top of the volcanoes and was dying every time.

What I don't like about Gradius is that dying effectively buggers your whole run - the later screens are brutal without a few of the upgrades.
