Full disclosure; I'd never heard of Famicom Detective Club. A quick glance at the Wikipedia Page tells me we're looking at two point-and-click visual novel mystery games set in Japan with a spooky, horror-like atmosphere, from '88 and '89 respectively. I'd imagine that for folks big into their Japanese visual novels, these two old-school, Gunpei Yokoi-directed gems have been holy grails for a while. Colour me intrigued. This will do nicely for the moment in lieu of those rumoured Great Ace Attorney translations.

I'm interested out of curiosity for sure, seen there might be a possible physical bundle which I'd much prefer over the downloads so might give these a crack, looked enjoyable enough.

It looked good but looking at the eShop's in the states it seems to be $35 each game and the UK its £50 for both but being eShop only as if you go on games page scroll down to the bottom doesn't mention a physical card version where if you look at Plants vs Zombies for instance does say a physical card version is due.

I'm hoping it's a mistake of some sort as I would try physical but not at £50 of the eShop.

Japan however has this

I suspect the answer is no, but if this is one of the Switch games that I can pick up here and play in English, I'll be all over a nice physical box.

I'd vaguely heard of these somewhere but this was completely out of left field, and they look pretty good as remakes!

The Direct narrator is the defective flub around these parts. Mad Absolutely killed any atmosphere this reveal might have had. Anyway, probably my Direct highlight, given that it feels a bit Ace Attorney-y.

Aye, I'm very interested to see how this holds up considering it's built from games made in the late 80s. I'm also a bit wary of that pricepoint, so it might be one for a sale! We shall see.

Seen this has reviewed well enough, but I think being digital only and the price still putting me off, however if I see in a sale at some point then I might get.

I... I... I don't know. I just bought another point-and-click (Silence) for 90% off, but I really want to support this. Also apparently Shigsy has been dumping on the genre and I'm bitter about his story decisions, so I kind of want to buy these to spite the Grand Old Man of gaming. peepshowbaddies.gif

EDIT BY WAY OF REPOST BECAUSE I CAN: I bought this! Or, er, these. Partly because I'm not swimming in games I want, partly to spite Shigsy. I'll let y'all know how they turn out I guess.

Was Shigsy right in the end Balla or is this one worth going for?

Believe he reviewed and did sound good, shame about price digital and import.

I think my verdict was something along the lines of 'yeeeeeeeeaaaaaammmmmmnnnnnnn Meh '

You've probably seen the full-on review, but in brief: the first one (The Missing Heir) is only adequate, partly because it feels more NESsy and partly because all the characters are lousy. The Girl Who Stands Behind is much better and would be an easy recommend if they were sold apart.

Shigsy wasn't right though. There's the kernel of a great series in here, especially prettied up like they are. The games' main flaws are in their humble origins, not their conception. Switch Detective Club would be a banger.

Probably. I'm happy that I bought it at full price to show willing and 'vote with my wallet' as it were, but does TMH have £25 worth of quality game in it? Er, no.

Guess could use the USA eShop and buy just The Girl Who Stands Behind as sold individual, for £22.86 before a sale.
