Digimon Survive comes out in July

The cutscenes look good, and the game has been in the works for ages, but the battles look a bit off

Me and my pal Sawada are pretty psyched for that.

Even though this thread fell off, I've still been super into Digimon. I finished Adventure, then 02, then Tri, then watched Last Evolution in theatres. I wear a Digimon V-Pet watch most days, I play the Digimon TCG with my friend Rob and I had a little bash at Digimon Story. It wasn't a good game for me to try to stream at 5am lol.

I would say I'd watch some more, but I did a reverse gJones as I've gone all digital but not for games but for films etc as most things are on a service, or I can rent X or Y film.

Not sure what Digimon is on though, anyway keen for the game.

This is what I thought. I wondered if it might never come out, or if it might have a bit of Duke Nukem Zero syndrome. It's nice that we'll finally get the chance to see!

I should get on with more Digimon, but honestly I'm drowning in anime right now. Including one that I'm trying to blaze through before it drops off Netflix, and another that I loved the first episode of which might actually make me pay Crunchyroll some money.

I have zero interest in what regular gaming outlet reviews say - if my fellow Digimon fans are into it, I'm keen on this one!

I know how Digimon works, more that the games let say social links will have a bearing on the game, which I like.

But like . . . you don't use all 896 Pokemon in every playthrough! There's a weird aversion to choice and then there's just not wanting games to involve interaction!

I guess in this has to make certain choices to get a Digimon he wants, and choice might not be one he likes.

Where in Pokemon, can just catch the Mon he wants, still a choice of the team though.

Would say I'm a digimon fan as I loved the first three series. Wasn't too impressed by the few episodes I saw of Tri - interesting premise but the magic's kind of gone. And heard the Adventure remake wasn't too good.

When it comes to the digimon games, I've had a problem with pretty much every one I've played. I liked World on PS1 a lot as a kid (but never got too far), but found going back to it frustrating. Don't enjoy the life system they have for the digimon and the inevitable grind it necessitates. The successors to that type of playstyle in the series seem to have the same problem.

Cyber Sleuth was okay in that it was a mostly regular and functional turn-based RPG but, idk, it just felt kind of mediocre. Loved the designs of the digimon and the characters but wasn't really feeling much else about the game. The writing of the game in particular seemed off.

Everything about this game so far looks okay or decent, so I'm a little hopeful. Will wait for reviews and impressions of people I trust when review copies go out.

The Adventure remake started well but it was even more of a Matt and Tai show than the original was, and even more of a procession of new evolutions as well. I think Tri was trying a bit too hard to be cool and edgy and dragged it out too long, but if you get a chance to see Last Evolution Kizuna, it does a much better job of being a heart-string-pulling nostalgic sequel to the original, and also allows you to basically skip Tri without losing much. If anything, it probably works best if you haven't recently watched anything else.

I was about the same. I have fond memories of World but I enjoyed watching Muss play it much more than I enjoyed playing it myself. Cyber Sleuth seemed fine but I struggled to get into it - probably related to my foolish decision to stream it.

Interesting to read Cyber Sleuth's writing seeming a bit off - to me that felt like the best bit about the game! Especially in comparison to Pokémon Shield, which I think I played not too far apart from DSCS. The gulf in writing between those two probably made me think that Cyber Sleuth was better than it was, despite everything else feeling unimpressive - that and the DigiFarm, which was basically a worse version of the Bravely series' Streetpass games. Then I tried Hacker's Memory and fell down to earth with a bump.

Anyway. Hopefully this is better!

This is just going off my memory of it from a couple of years ago - and I did only play a few hours of it - but to me it seemed like a pretty workman-like translation. Kind of dull but could have been good with a better localisation. The grammar/spelling errors and the poor structure of a lot of sentences seemed to be indicative of that. It was tolerable enough though. Would have kept playing if other parts of the game were better.

Pokemon's writing to me has a charming simplicity to it. There is some weirdness in the older games but overall the writing is good. To be clear I'm speaking purely about the in-game text, most of which is dialogue, and not the plot which I don't really set a high bar for when it comes to pokemon (or games generally tbh). I recall being especially happy with the writing in Sun and Moon, making X/Y feel a bit soulless by comparison. I got a similar vibe from Sword/Shield, but I rate it a little lower because I think Sun and Moon has better characters. I did also quite like the story in S/M.
