PostSubject: Re: Movies   Sun 20 Jan 2013 - 19:49

I have, in past, cried at Toy Story 2 and Monsters Inc. I cry every single bloody time at Up, Toy Story 3 and Wall-E.

Brave underwhelmed me too. I have nothing against it, it was good, but just not at usual Pixar standard. It was on-par with the likes of Madagscar 3 or Hotel Transylvania, but I expect so much more from Pixar. Instead, last years' real animated treat was Paranorman. I loved Paranorman so much, making my final top 10 of the year. It's very funny and also made me cry, the big softy I am. Frankenweenie is also worthy of note, but it's no Paranorman. Everyone go and see Paranorman. It's brilliant. I believe it's out on DVD in a week or twos time, too, so you'll have the chance to.

At the moment there are 3 trailers I can't stop watching. Them being Man of Steel, Iron Man 3 and Star Trek into Darkness

I saw Les MisÚrables and Life of Pi recently. I've actually done a review of Les Mis here (shameless, I know) and I've got one coming up for Life of Pi.

Both very good films, although if you could only see one, I'd recommend Les Mis, one of the best films I've seen in a long time.

What if you thought the musical was grossly overrated?

That's difficult. It's still the same story, but the way it's presented enhances that story. There's more emotional intensity, the sets are more grandiose than anything the stage could muster up, and the performances are all excellent.

But, if it was the actual storyline you took issue with, then yeah, you probably won't enjoy the film.

Oh really? Then yeah, they're pretty much unchanged, although I found there was lot more emotion with the movie's songs as opposed to the stage show's efforts.

I had never seen the play or anything of Les Mis before so I think that's why I didn't mind it. Even Russle Crow

shanks: Russell Crowe was actually okay by the end of the film, think I'd gotten used to his struggling voice.

Anyone been to see Django Unchained yet? Considering going to see it tomorrow, I'm a sucker for Tarantino films.

Hate to double post, but the news just hit that JJ Abrams will be directing Star Wars Episode VII. Thoughts?

(Also Django was baller)

My first thought is "What does 'baller' mean?"

My second thought is "Dear Pete, will JJ Abrams just become sci-fi franchise film director man?"

My third thought is "Wish my second thought had been a bit more coherent."

Yeah I mean who's Pete?

I don't think it will be such a bad thing him doing Star Wars

It was quite the spectacle. Sorry, I'd turned into a 90s rapper towards the end of my last post.

I reckon JJ should be up to the task. I'm not worried at all, I think this new Star Wars is in safe hands.

No idea! My brain is a weird place to be sometimes, like the time I spent a whole day wondering what would happen if Batman and Wallace from Wallace & Gromit swapped lives.

Oh, I know it won't be bad for us for him to do Star Wars but, well, he's doing Star Trek too. I'm worried for him that he might get pigeonholed. Mind you, he must know what he's doing.

On Saturday I went to see Les MisÚrables with my girlfriend. Put me in the group of people that cried at it. It's really good, I recommend it to all. Now, where's my Wreck-It Ralph?

How long's it been out everywhere else? I love Pixar's films, but they have a certain "Nintendo of Europe of old" vibe with the release dates that is annoying me.

Wreck-It Ralph's been out since November/December in the US, I think.

Also, has anyone been to see the steaming pile of tripe that is Movie 43? From the trailers, I can only imagine what horrors await.

You know I'd never actually seen any of the Matrix films until this week? Shocking, I know. Massive quality dip after the first one, mind.
