Began the catch-up process over the weekend, having not been to the cinema in a whole month. Zero Dark Thirty is very, very good, Les Mis and The Impossible also reccomended. The Last Stand and Quartet both do the job asked of them and no more, the former being as awful as you'd hope.

Saw Django Unchained yesterday with the girlfriend. Pretty amusing blaxploitation film. Funnier than I thought it would be, too.

I saw 'Gran Tourino' the other day, brilliant film. Clint Eastwood at his finest.

Trouble is, you watch something and then you watch a Ghibli film, and the Ghibli film blows whatever else it was out of the water. This week's slightly more literal water-outer-blower was Porco Rosso.

One of my favourites that. A Western without the West, so to speak.

You ever seen Grave of the fireflies? That is my favourite Ghibli film.

side note: Ghibli is the only anime I can stand.

I can't see any other Miyazaki works eclipsing My Neighbour Totoro in my eyes. I loved Ponyo and enjoyed Spirited Away, but there's something almost undescribable about the atmosphere in Totoro. Haven't seen any others, but I have a good selection of the jotted down on my mental list for future purchases.

I can't stomach any other sort of animé that I've seen, either (outside of the Kanto/Johto Pokémon series).

I'm going to see Wreck-It Ralph next week! Seeing Sonic and Q*Bert on the movie poster made me do a little internal fanboy dance.

Notice that Bowser isn't one of the baddies depicted on the poster. I'm sensing Nintendo wanted to keep his cameo low-key.

Never seen that one before, incidentally that was meant to be released as a double feature alongside Grave of fireflies.......very odd pairing.

Not as odd as you might think: the premise was that everyone would be depressed after GotF, so they needed something to cheer them up!

Totoro is indeed one of the cheeriest films in existence, and that intro song ("Hey, let's go..." etc.) sets the tone perfectly.

Wreck-It Ralph is quite brilliant, the first movie I've ever seen where the writers and director clearly understand what videogames are. It's not just the references (which range from the obvious stuff like Pac-man all the way to "seriously, was that a reference to Satan's Hollow in a mainstream Disney movie?"), but the way they managed to create three fictional games that could be placed in a real arcade and not look out of place in any way.

Back from Wreck-It Ralph. It's cram-packed with neat touches and sight gags, as you might expect from a director who's worked on Futurama and The Simpsons. Very appreciated. For some reason, though, I couldn't connect with the hero. Aww! Still, it was good fun and y'all of y'all should see it.

Four score and seven minutes ago, I left the cinema after watching Lincoln. Somehow American political wrangling was much more exciting in The West Wing. I have a sneaking suspicion that it'll win all the Oscars going, mind. Aww!

I wouldn't count on it - Argo seems to be performing admirably well across the numerous Awards shows.

Sign me up to the crowd who have seen Wreck-It Ralph! Great film, brilliantly made. It really is Toy Story for videogames. Sadly there was a power cut with a few minutes to go, so we definitely didn't watch the ending at home on Youtube. No sir.

Saw a poster for that in the cinema. It's the sort of thing I might enjoy, if I wasn't unable to take Gretel's cleavage seriously in the slightest.
