What's new (pussycat)?

Apologies for the stickies in this part of the forum, but they seem relevant for this sort of thing.

So, what's new on GNamer Forum today?

Well, you'll notice that we have one whole new category featuring a new forum, a renamed welcome category with a specific updates forum, and a new forum in the main Gnamer Forum category (GNamer Community).

Lots of other little tweaks and such, but I've already forgotten what most are.

I've shifted Fancy Fancy's suggestions thread into a more appropriate place, and Balladeer appears to have shifted his fully-featured music thread into Gaming Miscellaneous.

Just let us know what you think! Everything can be changed, and unnecessary stuff can easily be pruned.

Yes! And links! Well spotted amongst the myriad options.

Dusty did a sort of closing thread over at the old place (although goodness knows why it's in Off Topic rather than Magazine), into which I posted, which made me remember by old avatar (my really old one), which made me a bit nostalgic. So the forum now has a tiny Gengar as a bookmark icon. Subject to change depending on popular demand!

We're just trying to get inserted links to show up noticeably, so bear with us if you refresh the page and some text changes colour for no apparent reason.

Is this why all the GNamer forum buttons at the bottom are invisible now XD I want to navigate dammit!

Just been having a mess with the homepage to try and tidy everything up a bit. I think we're finally starting to look something like.

The only thing that has me completely flummoxed so far, is how, or if you can change the position of the 'online' status located below each user's post. Because we all think it looks ridiculous where it is.

I've just installed a points system. Do let me know if you want it to stay, but I'm tempted to keep how points are accrued a mystery. Then it'll be just like NGamer Forum!

One thing I will say, though: if you're paying attention, it's not hard to work out how points are gained.

That would be telling! Simple tip: keep a check on your score every time you contribute.

And I wondered how long it would take someone to use the smiley. I put it in there because it made me .

I worked the problem out earlier, but fixing it sadly involves knowledge of CSS and HTML formatting, so for the time being, we'll just have to get used to it. Ho-hum!

The location of each icon is dictated by its place in the code. I understand the problem, but that's as far as my technical know-how will take me.

I really wanted to use but I couldn't justify using it now I have! Woo!

I had a look at themes when everyone was talking about moving here, and I actually switched to this theme at that point. For the time being, I think it's wise to stay as we are. I don't want to upset folk by constantly farting about with the forum's appearance (like Facebook does every other week).

Glad folk like some of the new smilies! The beauty here is that if someone sees one they really like somewhere, we can add it to the smiley roster if needs be.

Oh, and you'll also notice 'Thanks' buttons. Is there any point keeping 'em? They are actually tied to a reputation system (which is currently deactivated), but I'm not keen on the idea of our users having good/bad reputations. It seems a bit unfriendly.

We could keep the Thanks buttons for a laugh though, I guess.

Depends what we can do with them, really- if we can have it not appear to anyone other than the person who clicked it, we can give people warm fuzzy feelings of having Thanked/Unthanked, without upsetting anyone/inflating anyone's ego and further.

Forum might (hopefully won't but might) go a bit funny for a bit this afternoon, as I try to re-learn CSS and move the "online" indicator somewhere sensible.

They're at the top of every post that wasn't made by you. To the left of the Quote and Edit buttons. I haven't pressed one yet, and with the reputation system disabled, I've no idea if they have a secondary form of visual feedback. (I'm thinkin it might be something like a Facebook'Like', perhaps?) If someone tries it, do let me know.

I think they might only be visible to certain people- I've only got a quote button.

Maybe it would be easier to change the online indicator to some kind of small icon? like a lightbulb or something
