"No one had a better view of the development and evolution of the Wii than Satoru Iwata.

Throughout the console's seven-year life-cycle, the president of Nintendo acted as its biggest cheerleader, defender and, at times, critic. He was a driving force in the company selling over 100 million systems and is now trying to spur that sort of interest in the Wii's successor."

Good article. This resonated with me as being a solid reason for why the Wii U has underperformed:

"The company, he believes, may have gotten spoiled by how easily audiences embraced the Wii, which resulted in some missteps as it rolled out its new system."

My brother's been an off and on Nintendo gamer because of my Nintendo consoles. He's young, so he's not really keeping up to date with gaming news. He had no idea there was a new Nintendo home console out because there's been bugger-all in the way of marketing for it.
