Virtual Reality - Page 4 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Virtual Reality   Virtual Reality - Page 4 EmptyFri 13 Mar 2015 - 15:11

I go on a lot of gaming sites and most seem to think like me that Morpheus will do the best as it's going direct to consumers and Sony has there own studios.

But had a thought Uncharted 4 has been delayed to Spring 2016 and Morepheus could come out then as it's the first half of 2016. I'm not really sure how a 3rd person action game would work but Uncharted's where one of a few games that used 3D on a console well that I could see Naughty Dog doing something & doing it well with Morepheus.

PostSubject: Re: Virtual Reality   Virtual Reality - Page 4 EmptyFri 12 Jun 2015 - 10:37

I don't know if you have seen it or not but there was a Oculus pre-E3 conference.

The big news is that the consumer unit of rift comes with a Xbox One controller bundled in and is Windows 10 compatible that you can play Halo 5 with a rift with Streaming via Virtual Cinema. You will need a Xbox One, a PC with Windows 10 & Oculus Rift to do so which will be rather expensive and isn't proper VR it's just putting the images on screens in the headset but still might be cool.

If you only have the PC & Rift part then there will be dedicated Rift game such as EVE Valkyrie from CCP, Edge of Nowhere from Insomniac Games along with Oculus investing $10m into indie games for the VR device.

Along with announcing a few studios making games for it along with another controller which is called the Half Moon at the moment which looks a bit like a cooler PlayStation Move which will of course work with those sort of games that you move around with a headset on.

I think this is all good news on the games front that might come to Morphus as well like EVE Valkyrie and Rift could possibly have more game thanks to Xbox but it's not for me as I'm not going to buy 3 things to play Halo 5 in not quite proper VR.

Also makes me wonder where this leaves HoloLens and will we see a Rift that plugs straight into a Xbox One eventually.

Which is a ridiculous amount, and add the cost of rig on top as well.

Sony just need to come out and go PSVR is $299 which is around the price of a console and affordable likely Shu has said.

Crazy prices but it feels like any big new technology: well expensive for the first adopters and a bit longer before it becomes affordable for other folks.

I will be sticking and not twisting, Dealer. Thumbs Up!

Yeah, fair play if anyone wants to shell out on one at that price, but that's way too much for me to invest in VR.

The best bit is it'll get about as much support as 3d, making it worth even less.

Isn't there going to be one VR set that's a cardboard box with a smartphone in? That might be slightly less pricey.

Lot of negativity, yeah it's expensive as hell but I still believe this is the future of gaming & the entertainment medium but like Zero says maybe it take a while in till it comes affordable to other folks.

Now it's wait and see what the Vive & PSVR are priced at, I feel which one of the 3 is the most affordable wins the VR race. If Sony keep there word there's will be the cheapest and may cost less then a Oculus Rift for a PS4 & PSVR combined.

Also I can see at events the queues for any VR headset being even longer as people will think is that worth $600, I better try it.

There's no way they will sell it at launch for that price, Sony are the king of expensive add-on peripherals.

I can't think of any maybe the move was expensive but that never interested me.

I think Sony has learned from the PS3 & PS4 launch and there press so far with the PSVR that it's around the cost of a console (PS4 was $399) & affordable that $299 could be realistic maybe $350 at a push for it also I don't see it as a add-on peripheral (even if it is) but a new platform to play games.

Hmmmmmm... I was talking about this with my mate last night and we both came to the same conclusion. I'll be honest and say I was 90% sure I didn't want a VR set in my house anyway; the prohibitive cost fills that meter up. I don't think it's worth anywhere near that price for the amount of time you'll actually spend using it; I don't really want to be sitting with a headset on for more than 30 minutes, and I worry it's going to be as much of a gimmick as 3D TV, Kinect, or the Wii Remote. I do worry as
(a) A lot of people might waste money in the next year, and
(b) If it recovers at all, it may well be 20 years' time before they try again (if you're old like me you'll remember the Virtuality stuff from the mid 90s)

BUT - positive comment - there is a market where VR is working: it's a commercial one rather than games. I know that's not that much fun for us gamers, but: I work for a company that creates CAD software specialising in bathroom / kitchen design. We've actually been selling packages with Oculus Rift headests to bathroom and kitchen showrooms. If a client comes in to their showroom and wants a room designed, they can see their new kitchen/bathroom in proper 3D. It's apparently working very well with the showrooms that have purchased it so far. I'd also say an advantage is that the end user is only wearing the headset for 20 minutes at a time.

I'll be buying a PSVR as to me it's the leap from 2D to 3D just price is the issue that's it.

Don't analysis reckon VR will bring in billions this year.

Jim has just done his take on it and I've seen a few others compare the price of the rift to other thing just look at the price of a phone (yes you can get on a contract) and TV's which when HD first came out they were thousands of pounds but now I can buy a HDTV for a few hundred, same with 3DTV's and soon 4K TVs.

But what some of you said is on the lines of what Lucky has said it's not Rift v VIVE v PSVR but VR vs the public as how to get the message across on why you need VR also he talks about how PSVR is going towards a more mainstream audience then the rift.

The rift is also sold-out to June.

I know this post was from a while ago but that's simply not true. The damn thing isn't even out yet, but if you peruse the Steam Store you can probably find over a hundred games offering Rift support/promising support.

I sincerely doubt many of them will do a good job with the Rift, but its undeniably something being accommodated for in the PC market.

masofdas wrote:

I don't think this means anything. Like Jimbob says the early, tech hungry, adopters were always going to snap it up, the question is will anyone else. As others have said, that price is outrageous for a private consumer - at least one on my wages.

I'm actually pretty hopeful that we'll see the Rift in classrooms in the not too distant future. It could really help visual learners in subjects traditionally starved of visual imagery. Needs proper software support though. Still VR potential in commercial businesses may well keep the thing going long enough to see cheaper VR filter its way into the hands of lower-budget gamers.

From the Maths perspective, it could be a blast: 3D space (3D vectors and elevations in particular) can be oddly challenging to visualise. However, the visual/auditory/kinaesthetic learning style stuff has been debunked - all students learn to some extent in all the ways.

Well VR Porn is real, thanks to Naughty America but is rather so-so from what I hear but once they get it right. It could take off as the porn industry has always been at the for front of technology.

I suppose a better way of putting it is that in addition to how VR could help model things from Vectors to Science experiments or Geographic locations, it could also engage on a greater level a number of students than other learning tools.

Imagine going to school and being able to put on some weird, functional, tech that's intuitively manipulated by the user. I'd be super excited to have a go - although obviously the effectiveness of it will vary with class size, the student, app quality etc.

Porn VR is a bit of a quandary. Will it further immerse you in the porn, or would you suddenly take the opportunity to look around as much as possible - get a real good look at that rinkydink set?

Also I think it would be weird having all that going on in your face and only audio/visual feedback, more tools required for an Occulus Stiff?

These are two weird quotes to have in the same post.

What you bring up is the problems at the moment, the one video is you as a guy in a chair with big muscles and tats which takes some-out of the experience. Then two girls come in and do there thing but when they get close they seem like giants also you can't look around 360 degrees but just up down left right.

The other demo is the same but as woman in the chair instead which all women that have tried so far have hated as the guy just does his thing.

The two solutions I can think off is the Rift has a motion control controller that maybe you could use those and it controls your virtual arms or you make it a interactive FMV and use your head / voice to say if you want XXX done to you.

VR Porn is a weird one. Even more so than regular porn, the only thing you're going to be able to feel like is a voyeur, watching but never engaging in the amorous activities.

I'm just saying it'll look very real, but that will make it all the more obvious it isn't happening to you. No matter how long you sit on it or how much microwaved ham you have in your boxing glove, your hand is still your hand.
