| So, a Japanese friend told me how the confusion came about, which I found really interesting.
The Japanese version of the game had a Tomodachi DS > 3DS transfer tool, so you could port your characters from an earlier version of the game over. This had a bug in it, which meant that the Tomo DS Miis completely replaced some of your Tomo 3DS Miis, but assumed the same role. This meant that Mii Hitler would replace Mii Britney Spears, but still wear a dress, but still be married to the same person. There never was any option for same-sex, and Nintendo patched the bug because aside from scrambling your data, it also stopped you from being able to save.
The Western press saw pictures of two male miis together, put 2 and 2 together, mistranslated posts, and there you have it...
In other news, Jim Sterling made a video about this, which once again, completely misrepresents the issue.... |

| I find it... interesting that the ONM website has neither published a news article about this, nor is there any discussion of this highly contentious issue on its forum. This is why I find it difficult to believe anyone who says that official magazines have no problems with bias. (According to one of their mods., they didn't review Pokémon Battle Revolution on the Wii at all. You know, that game NGamer gave 55% to?)
I do want to move on to actually discussing the game, and feel that I can consider the matter closed on the back of Ninty's latest statement, but like I said, I found that... interesting. |

| It was never something that would put me off buying the game, I've thought it looked hilarious since the NGAMER ds days, but I'm glad to hear Nintendo admit their mistakes as it were. |

This has disappointed me. I love Nintendo and it's sad that they get dragged through the mud unfairly by swaths of the multi-format press so often, but even so you can't ignore their mistakes (however you feel about the actual omission itself, the PR handling was a massive muck up). I expected better of ONM...but perhaps they are taking time to write a more thoughtful and research piece for the Magazine next month? |

I do want to move on to actually discussing the game, and feel that I can consider the matter closed on the back of Ninty's latest statement, but like I said, I found that... interesting. That's a good point. Always brings back to mind how their writers would only defend them not being biased based on the review scores of the games, but that was far from the point: it's about what content and topics they can and cannot cover. Even going back to reviews, I had no problem with the high score Mario All Stars Wii received, since objectively you just cannot fault the games on the package, but the review itself had no mention at all pertaining to the quality of the anniversary package itself. This could have been a great chance for ONM to write a properly balanced article about the issue, while focusing on Nintendo's side of things (which many writers, both mainstream and specialist gaming press have not done) which would help explain why Nintendo couldn't have added in the option in localisation anyway. Actually, I'd highly recommend reading this piece, it's a great one that examines the issue from all possible angles: http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/ChristianNutt/20140508/217351/Understanding_Nintendos_Tomodachi_Life_problem.php |

| I've spent a good amount of time on this since I got it yesterday. My thoughts, if they count for anything... - Spoiler:
At first I admired the sheer lunacy of it all, and I couldn't wait to show it to everyone I know, both in my personal life and on social media. Yet I'm already finding that there's not much actual 'game' beyond the limited and repetitious minigames. Even three-or-so hours in, I can't honestly see myself having more fun with this than I have already, or playing it for as long as Nintendogs & cats or Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Good experiment, but I'm feeling the same way about this as I do Nintendo Pocket Football Club; it can be immersive on occasion, but there's so much potential for so much more.
EDIT: All that aside, I am having fun with it, and it fleshes out the Mii concept quite well. I've used my mates, and it's a laugh to have digital versions of them, like Gary, the tightarse who wears geranium polo shirts, Jamie, who has been asleep every time I see him, and of course Dave, who once spent the night in the slammer so naturally lives in a Tomadachi Prison Cell.

| That's kind of what I was worried about. I had the same problem with AC. Would you still recommend it at full price, Cappa? |

| For everyone: I'd call it a natural progression from Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Essentially, if you had enjoyed that but have found little left to do (which would be understandable, seeing as it's almost a year since it's release), then I'd recommend at least trying Tomadachi Life. You might find it to be an interesting and entertaining diversion from the rest of your 3DS library.
It's the perfect 'try before you buy' sort of game. Handily, there are two demo codes included in the copy I've bought, but I've already got plans for them both. Perhaps another owner of the game could donate theirs to the curious readers of this thread...? |

| I popped into the shop with the intention of buying this but they only had one copy in and they'd sold it. So instead, I've got it downloading as we speak. It feels like that is the natural approach anyway, considering that this will probably take the place of animal crossing for me.
No plans for using my demo codes currently so happy to share! |

| Never thought I'd say this, but I don't think this game is for me. Based on thoughts I've read, I'd argue that you at least have something to do in Animal Crossing. Sitting around and watching stuff happen doesn't sound like something that'll glue me to my 3DS for months to come. |
