| I have decided to do one of the free online courses offered online by USA Universities, like Harvard. My first one starts in October, and I chose Philosophy, just because I find it interesting.
http://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=edx&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&ved=0CDQQFjAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.edx.org%2F&ei=WZgkUti6OKXJiAfSqYDoBg&usg=AFQjCNFP5mkXQ-C8Qhf3REN8itL0HypTtg&bvm=bv.51495398,d.dGI
Have a look and tell me what you think of what they are offering. |

| I think I'm getting directed to the wrong page. All the ones I can see (none of which include philosophy) seem awfully specific: "Introduction to Solid State Chemistry" being an example. Master's courses, perhaps? |

They are all specific and narrow courses, parts of a full course. Some are Introduction, but others need some background to complete. Spend a little time looking through the courses and get a feel for what they are doing. They are done with proper teachers from the named Universities. I am very impressed with their commitment to learning for all and for free. I am just doing it for the sake of learning. Education never gets boring. |

| Nearly ran over a cat during yesterday's driving lesson. It lolloped out into the road and wasn't going to stop, so I had to. I lost sight of it under the bonnet but I didn't feel anything, so hopefully it was OK. |

| So the weirdest* thing happened in school today, The head of the HE (home economics(cooking)) department invited my year to her room for a talk on something called "the community care project"(Go to old people's home, entertain them, get a certificate to say how wonderful you are at being social). Anyway, she went through all the details of when we can do it and what it goes towards and how employers will rupture a spleen when they see that you have it on your CV thingy. So after she was done with her talk on how to talk to old people without insulting them too harshly she hushed down to a warningful tone. And, staring deeply at the nearest pupil she could find (We'll call her kevin), she said "You should be prepared that the old person you are talking to could die at any moment and if they do appear dead tell a member of staff and they will deal with them" And, in one of the finest displays of squeamish ineptitude I've ever seen, kevin fainted into the arms of the pupil beside her! Then everyone laughed and signed up for it. *Weirder things may have happened. Moral of the story: Teachers are masters of picking out the weak. |

| I've just emailed the area manager of GAME south west about a job as there reopening in my local town, but they only seem to have dam xmas temp jobs but the manager in what is now my local gave me the email address, so maybe something come out of it. Reason there's no proper jobs as they've emailed all the former employes of GAME & Gamestation but most would of moved on though, so that could be good for me. |

| I had a mate who worked as a Christmas temp in GAME. She said it was a brilliant job, with the best perk being that she got a 30% staff discount card. We had a deal where she'd let me use her GAME staff discount and I let her use my Next staff discount. I only took her up on one game - Yoshi's Island DS, of all things - when I really should have got a brand-new-at-the-time Wii, but still, good times!
Games Centre in Ayr are usually looking for staff. It's always struck me as being the most ridiculously easy job ever - I get the impression that all the staff do is mill about and talk to their mosher mates.
Working in a game shop would be such a skive. |

| I buy to many games now but with a 30% discount I would be buying pretty much everything that comes out. Like I said I don't want Xmas temp I want a proper job I'm not going to leave a full time secure job with prospects to work in GAME for 2 months. Which I told the guy in my local GAME, which he understood and said they might have supervisor roles etc if none of the old staff go back. |

| Can't blame you for not wanting to move for so little, but I would imagine that they're probably only offering the Chiristmas jobs at the moment as either
a/ They're only going to open over Christmas- get the peak sales and then close, or b/ They're treating it like an 'audition' of sorts, all the best Christmas staff get to stay on. |

| The manger job is on there website, so they must be planning to stay open longer then xmas. The guy in my local pretty much said your option B but they still might need assistant manger which I could do easily with my previous experience. |
