Tetris

Ahh, Tetris. Arguably the reason that the original Game Boy succeeded, we've been rotating and arranging those seven shapes for most/all of our lives (delete as applicable). The grand old dame of puzzle games always seems to return in each generation with a slightly new idea to regenerate itself. What's your favourite version? What's your favourite mode/innovation of recent times? Does the forthcoming Tetris movie strike you as weird as?

Still the best thing about Tetris.

Otherwise, nah. I've never been a fan of games where the sole aim is to get a high score, and as far as that premise goes, games like Zoo Keeper play better than the puzzle genre's grandfather. And when they've tried to do new things with the formula, it doesn't seem to have worked: anyone remember that awful Metroid-themed variant on the DS? Rubbish.

Aye, I'm another who enjoys a good game of Tetris. Like Balladeer, I'm not usually into high score attack games, but then few of them are of the quality of Tetris. Brilliant.

In terms of recent versions, I liked the Tetris game Nintendo brought out on 3DS a few years back. The original Game Boy and the N64's 'New Tetris' update are my two favourites though. I don't think there's been a truly bad Tetris game - even when they've dicked about with the core formula, Tetris itself is strong enough to be at least a little fun.

Oh, I loves me some Tetris. It's one of those games that install themselves on your brain; you can imagine Tetris happening on your living room wall. (Other games with this attribute are Lemmings, Bomberman, Smash Bros.)

When I was a kid (as Balla points out in another topic, that was yonks ago) we played The New Tetris as a family, in the 4 player mode. That game has the gold and silver 4x4 blocks in. I know these are controversial, but I actually think they were a good addition.

Don't think it should have a film though.

How can ye not like a bit of Tetris? Not played any of the newer ones mainly because the original is so good, though I am currently tempted by Ultimate which has a pretty funny advert.

I'm curious about the film, I must admit. Think it'll be awful, mind, but I can't help but be curious.

I love Tetris to bits and it's always a hit with the family whenever I'm home. I used to stomp the videogame society into the ground on it regularly, but they stopped playing against me

I don't tend to play much multiplayer Tetris, which will thankfully change with Ultimate's on-line modes. Speaking of Ultimate, it's got the downright evil Rotation Lock mode. It plays exactly as it sounds and forces you to play the game very differently indeed. I managed to get to level 3 once.

@Andy - is there not a handicap that they could give you? I remember playing Dr. Mario with many more viruses on-screen than my opponent.

Can't beat a bit of Tetris on the gameboy but surprisingly I only own to games in the franchise The Next Tetris on Dreamcast which I think adds almost nothing apart from online play, the other one is Tetris 3D I think on my 3DS which on offer at about £8 on eShop a while back.

I normally play with autohandicap on, however there is a limit and I can handle that reasonably well anyway
