Summer Directs 2022

This year E3 has been cancelled, but Geoff Keighley has his Summer Game Fest again which we now know about three events with two at the same time as they would be if E3 was happening.

I think we still get E3 just not in name and for us be it in the UK, Japan or Aus nothing changes, be watching them online still regardless who's banner a show comes under.

I will update when we get more announcements, which Nintendo will be the main one for most of us.

Nintendo will literally be the only one I care about, so many companies just don't get it when it comes to these directs and Geoff's Big Summer Games Jamboree doesn't fill me with confidence as that usually bores the socks off me.

I feel all he does is the same as me, puts a list of the shows on his website then maybe has something before an actual showcase starts.

Exactly and I'd much rather have you presenting them than Geoffrey, he's not even proper mates with Kojima like you are.

I'm in the same boat as Smurf; keen for a Nintendo Direct if we get one, completely ambivalent about anything else.

Do always wonder if Kojima ever goes that darn Geoff on the phone yet again.

Yeah, but then Mads and Norman are like "Oh its that damn Kojima on the phone".

Totally off topic but I've just been reminded of the time I hesitated answering the phone to someone I didn't wanna talk to only to see that they were in a car right next to me and could probably see my obvious "can I be bothered talking to them?" moment.

The Showcase we all wanted

I think I've got greedy. It was only the other day that I was bemoaning the quiet release schedule on Switch, and thinking that it was about time we had another Direct. I think we've just had one? And summer's coming up. Blimey. Maybe it's the eShop having a quiet time I'm really noticing. Maybe a Nindie Showcase in may to whet our whistles for the main event? Pleeeeeeeease?

Of course I don't care about anything else.

Part from May, Nintendo has had a 1st party game or a exclusive (Triangle Strategy) a month though.

I know, I'm being super-greedy and also a person who doesn't care about Switch Sports.

Now you know how Cappa feels when we have a month like July which has two RPGs as the Nintendo games.

Also I've added the 505 Showcase.

I watched 505, who have published likes of Control and Death Stranding (PC) that them having a showcase for the first time must have something.

Well they had four games, and how they were shown was awful as well. It was certainly up there with Koch Media last year as one of the worst, it can only get better from here.

True, but I got the impression that a lot of people were underwhelmed by Switch Sports, not just me! The 6/10 from Nintendo Life may as well be them mailing human excrement to Nintendo directly.

July is all about the Klonoa collection and the Jaleco Arcade Evercade cartridge, I feel good about July!

I might even dip into Klonoa myself, I know OR also goes absolutely mad for the squirrel-cat-bunny-thing.

When do you think Nintendo will announce one? And will we get Treehouse?

I can see Nintendo waiting until about July-ish & a treehouse live is definitely possible but I get the feeling they might give it a miss this year.

Maybe afterwards when random British game is back.

I can't decide if Nintendo have more bargaining power if they do an event and show the ESA that the E3 "thing" doesn't need E3, or if they don't do one so next year there is more incentive to try to entice them to do one.

Surely they will do an event though. Surely. Bargaining power or no.

They'll do one eventually, but no pressing need to do one in June. We have a few games announced for the next couple months, Pokémon is nailed in for a date and generally does separate presentations. In a month or two, they can do one to give us dates for Bayonetta and maybe trail a few things for next year.

I'd like to be wrong, but I'm not getting excited.

I think we'll see one soon but probably after the dust has settled on Big Geoff's Super Fun Gaming Jamboree.
