Guys guys guys - quys - question:

Is the gameplay good enough to warrant getting, given that previous Mario Tennises have been a local multiplayer favourite with the family? I didn't really play that much of the single player mode in previous versions (although I thought that was lacking - which makes me worried for this)

I'd say the gameplay is good enough. I've had a few hours with it now, and I feel it plays just as well as Mario Tennis on the N64, which is something that I feel neither the GBA spinoff, Power Tennis, Power Tour or Open did. It should be a safe bet with the family - you pretty much know what you're getting with Ultra Smash gameplay-wise.

I don't have my Wii U online at my flat and I've never had the opportunity to play the Wii U locally with mates (ever!), so it's a bit of a dud for me without the single player options. That I still think it's all right is a compliment to the gameplay: it's a really good game of virtual tennis. If you can play it with those at home, then you're certain to like it more than I do.

It's 28.95 on The Game Collection just now, if you're looking: http://www.thegamecollection.net/mario-tennis-ultra-smash-wii-u.html

Chris Scullion's review. One comment early on took me write* back to the NGamer days. Aaaaah, nostalgia.

*Got it on the brain, I have.

An update on my last post - Simply Games have Ultra Smash for 23.85 with free delivery: http://deals.simplygames.com/p/mario-tennis-ultra-smash-nintendo-wii-u

That review is fair enough, and I get what he's trying to argue, but really, who pays full price for a game these days? You'd have to be desperate to pay 39.99 for anything, whether it's Ultra Smash, Xenoblade Chronicles X, or whatever.

Maybe it's me in my old age but at just over 20 I still find myself reluctant to buy, a sad sign of the times as I'd be all over this usually.

Paper Mario isn't as thin as this game. Doubt I'll ever get it... which was not what I was thinking when it was announced. Sad
