| Est-ce un "comme-Metroid?" (my French does not see use very often, so... I hope that made sense!) I really like the art style in this - I might end up jumping on board sooner than planned. |

| Je viens de rechercher *adjusts language settings* I've just researched 'Metroidvania' in French for about ten minutes only to discover that it's 'Metroidvania'. In other linguistic news, the German is 'pseudometroid'. I'll also throw in that the German for 'platformer' is 'jump and run'. I may have said that before. |

Well it should be called Metroidvania as the best one in the genre is a Castlevania game. 1) It being the best in the genre is debatable & 2) you shouldn't really name a genre after the best games of it's type otherwise we'd be calling FPS's GoldenSplitters or WarfareCompany.......wait a second can we actually call them GoldenSplitters? I really like the sound of that. --- Anyhow I'll shut up about it now & let you's talk Axiom Verge.

| Well if it's option 2 then Metroid shouldn't even be in the title either, we will have to call it a action platformer because you jump and run from what Zero says.

It was something genuinely new at the time though so I can forgive them for doing that. (Now I'm done) |

| I'm not! I specifically used the term 'Metroid-like' rather than 'Metroidvania' because Axiom Verge does not feel like a '-vania' game. Its Metroid roots are so very obvious, and it hasn't taken anything from Castlevania as far as I can tell.
In general I'll refer to titles in the genre as 'Metroidvanias', and I'm sure I've done so on GNamer in the past. I used 'Metroid-like' instead here for a very specific reason. |

| So far - Spoiler:
I'm feeling frustrated with how Trace is being prevented from going back to previous sections. I feel quite funnelled down a particular path at the moment when I'd rather be heading back to previous areas to find trinkets, goodies and loot. That said, the weapons and power-ups I've earned so far feel really inventive and intuitive. At the minute I'm feeling it's good, but not great.

| So there's now a new dimension added to the already incredible story of Axiom Verge. Tom Happ's son is profoundly disabled and the game has enabled him to pay for some of the care. Good stuff. |
