PostSubject: The 3DS thread   The 3DS thread EmptyMon 22 Apr 2013 - 14:28

Seeing as we don't have a thread for general 3DS business, this can be it, yes?

Starting with a neat little promotion that Nintendo have just announced. If you buy any three of the following eight games - Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate, Luigi's Mansion 2, Fire Emblem: Awakening, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, LEGO CITY Undercover: The Chase Begins, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D - and register them in Club Nintendo, you can get a download code for a fourth game from the list FREE!

Full details here... http://www.nintendo.co.uk/Misc-/Nintendo-3DS-So-Many-Games-Promotion/Overview/Overview-750393.html

Damn you! beat me to it! Hissy fit

Anyways, I might be getting one of the games for under £35, so here's hoping I can get either Donkey Kong Country Returns or the digital download of MH3U.

Speaking of new news: Cover your eyes. You'll thank me later.

This contraption of a colour 3DS XL is out at the end of next month. Thoughts?

Yeah, but youse got Snowboard Kids 2. It'll take another fifteen years of NoE generousity to make up for that.

Good offer, but was honestly only intending on getting two of those eight games.

I don't mind that pink XL, better than the bland white ones that are available.

I already have three of the games in the 'So Many Games' promotion (Luigi's Mansion 2, Castlevania and Fire Emblem), I intend to buy Animal Crossing, so I'm left with a choice of four for my freebie, think I'm going to go with Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D.

I'd quite like that 3DSXL given that I only have a bog standard one and have never had a special console *cue sad violin music*
It may raise a few eyebrows if I were to play it in church or school, but that would probably raise eyebrows anyway.

...eyebrows forget gravity when I come into contact with them *sigh*

*sad violin fades out and we are left with a tranquil fishing scene on Naboo*

I want, but do not have, Luigi's Mansion 2, DKCR (on Wii or 3DS (obvs)), and New Leaf. I will be doing nothing but working in June, I think, so mayhaps I shall buy them and treat myself to a download of Fire Emblem, because I'm not sure enough I want it to buy it, but if it's free...

Edit: Actually, now that I think about it, Animal Crossing would be the perfect game to have as an icon on your 3DS at all times so that you could check on your town whenever. Sorted.

Gaah. I've got Luigi's Mansion 2 and the Castlevania game; the only other one that might interest me is the Lego game. Then what would I do? Neutral

Did anybody order the Animal Crossing 3DS XL from Zavvi when it was going cheap? Some people are reporting that their orders are being cancelled. Let us know if you're order has been cancelled. Mine hasn't as of yet, but I'm bracing myself for disappointment. Still, the Too Many Games promo will soften the blow - I'm coming round to the idea of picking up Lego City and Castlevania and eventually getting New Leaf for free.

I did, and mine still stands as I type. I wonder if the cancellations are happening because there isn't enough stock to cover the orders, or because they were offering it cheaply? Hoping the former.

I'm hoping that's the case. Zavvi honoured by £27.88 order for Lego City Undercover when they later listed it before launch as sold out at £42.99. Obviously a 3DS XL is a bit more expensive than that, and the potential saving is much greater. Still, not bloody likely that they'll honour this.

EDIT: Zavvi responding to queries on Twitter that all orders are to be cancelled due to a pricing error. Ach well. Worth a shot!

That pink XL makes my eyes bleed, though not quite as much as the hideous hot pink PSP:

The 3DS thread Pink_psp

I've pre-ordered the Animal Crossing 3DS, though not from Zavvi. Shame about that mis-price.

In light of the overwhelming likelihood that my Zavvi order will be cancelled, I'm still tempted to get a 3DS XL - considering the falling price and the amount of use I'll get out of it this year, it seems like a good investment. I'll fish about for other deals.

To me, getting all these special 3DS' isn't all that great, I already have a 3DS, where were these lovely looking ones when I needed them dammit? I actually tpyed with the idea of getting a new 3DS, the Zelda one preferably but then they went and discontinued the Aqua Blue model making my current one too special to replace.

Transparent pink GBA was quite nice back in the day. Then again, I'm a sucker for transparent consoles.

It's taken me a hell of a long time to warm to my 3DS XL. Probably the longest out of any of the Nintendo handheld updates (excluding the basic DSi, which I've never been fond of. Stupid cheap screen).

Now, though, I'm glad of the bigger screen space. Though the volume button is in the silliest place ever.

check your login for your codes for the So Many Games promo.

Oh, and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate chews up an entire 2GB SD card. I am not joking when I say that..!

I've yet to upgrade to a 3DS XL, which is why I'm hoping for there to be a 3DS+ or 3DS or something. Who knows, perhaps it'll happen given Iwata's desire to boost 3DS hardware sales. But there are a few things on my wishlist which I'd like to see on a future 3DS hardware model (save that for another thread).

Boy, the DSi screen is crummy. The viewing angles are so bad that even the smallest shift of your head can change the colours. Drives me insane sometimes. And I'm fairly certain it has interlacing, too - moving objects produce horizontal lines on the screen, something that was never complained about.

That being said I actually enjoyed playing games on the DSi. When the poor viewing angles and interlacing weren't getting in the way, the screen produced colours that complemented the DS's colour palette (especially over how they look on a regular 3DS and DS lite) and I loved the matte finish of it. Screen's no match for the DSi XL though!

Worst thing about XLs are the sucky speakers, they reverberate badly at times when the console's volume is turned up to its highest. But apart from that, XLs are ... XLent. *cough*

Also, some tweets I saw sent by Zavvi yesterday imply that the cheap Animal Crossing XL orders will be cancelled. The price they listed it apparently less than what they're paying to stock them.
