OK, its no NGamer, but as it's the 100th issue, it's kind of a milestone - especially with a drawn cover by Miyamoto for subscribers.

Haven't received my copy yet, but apparently it has a "Nintendo should go third party" feature, which seems a bit at odds with the celebratory issue, and the last thing I ever expected to see in the Official Magazine.

Aye. Of course I wish it was NGamer's 100th but... ya know... they kind of merged (I can hear the volume level decrease as I write that). Matthew references the awld mag at least twice I think.
I only started getting it since NG folded; looking at the retrospective, it's become a lot less Official recently, which I think is a good thing.

I don't agree with the 3rd party thing (was that written by Ben Griffin? Surprised) as Nintendo try to make a difference with hardware as well as software. They just need to be better at explaining this to the general public. Don't get me wrong, if they were 3rd party, they'd capture a marketplace on the other consoles that is empty because they are so good at what they do.

I'll be picking mine up in work on wednesday as I don't sub to the mag, as it works out with my discount at work only 13p more a issue. And I can buy when I want this way or get the annual copy in my stocking in christmas.

Got the magazine now, it's a good issue, but that "Nintendo should go third party" segment is GameFAQs level trolling. (It's the usual stuff - Wii U not selling, EA and Bethesda not supporting, they should copy Sega) As someone that has been collecting game magazines for years, this is the first time, ever, I've seen an official magazine feature an article like this.

The whole premise of "By the time ONM 200 is out, you'll be playing Mario on Xbox" is especially flawed - if Nintendo stopped making consoles, there would be no Official Nintendo Magazine (How many magazines dedicated to Sega do you see lately?)

I fully expect Michael Pachter now to appear in issue 101.

Being a dirty subber now (birthday present!), my copy arrived on Friday. I've only flipped through it thus far, but it seems like a decent read. My eyes always gravitate towards Matthew's name at the bottom of any article, natch.

Ha! Yeah, I thought exactly that when I read it. Overall it's a good read, and it has become a lot better since NGamer ended. I reckon Skrebels would have fit right in with the old mag.

Indeed. Joe has a similar style to the Castle himself.

Agreed. Heard the podcast? Brilliant. Would've loved a N64-mag-era podcast... *fails to invent time machine*

Oh - also - during the retrospective - bonus Charlotte anecdote (who was ONM's ProdEd before hopping NGamer-wards)

You should definitely start with this one Grin
And, going by the twitters, the one this Wednesday will probably have a similar result...

I've been mentioned on the podcast twice, some reason they think I'm French.

I've only been mentioned twice, but they tweeted about me again so I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be in this one. But 49 was the first time I listened/ entered, so I'm doing quite well so far.

Yep, I really like Joe's style - it has a bit of an edge to it. His Animal Crossing video blog was excellent too.
