Nodding my head in agreement with Buskalilly, the forum votes are best when there’s a reason for them to happen.

Something daft like gjones suggests could be good fun though. A Switch 5th anniversary vote probably wouldn’t be different enough from what we each typed into that Switch Voting thread in March this year (or even March last year), I don’t think it’s that big a deal. A genre-specific vote could have more energy behind it, but those game styles would have to be picked carefully. To be clear, big fat no to Point & Click Adventure Games; big fat yes to ACA Neo Geo Sports games.

Looking way ahead, maybe some sort of ‘Best of GNamer’ vote could be done in early 2023, marking ten years since we all moved house from the NGamer Forums.

I've been thinking carefully about the genres and I can confirm that they'll be the following:

• RPG from somewhere in the middle

• RPG with Tic-Tacs
  
• Point-and-Click
  
• Click-and-Point
  
• Visual novel
  
• Visual reference book
  
• Best Windjammers game

I like the GNamer move idea (Buska's right it was never nearly ten years), but will anyone remember what we were all up to back in 2016? The forum search function's lousy, apart from anything else.

Also, stating the obvious: much though I love tallying numbers up in a big spreadsheet, it doesn't have to be me who does the votes. Anyone can start one!

Cappa your not wrong, but not everyone comes and types every year, then some just put BotW ten times.

Then Balla loves to tally them together, but sure can do one when Switch 2 announced or something.

Sounds more like a new vote thread to me.

Soooooo... I was thinking about taking the Switch 5th Anniversary Vote that, er, got mixed feedback, and tagging it onto the end of the Forum Awards this time around. I was thinking of the usual top ten, and perhaps adding a few bonus categories: I had in mind Best Visuals, Best Audio, Best Writing, and maybe two others in a similar vein that aren't the same sort of thing we normally prize.

But, obviously that's only any good if people are up for it, and don't feel that Hooray You're Five isn't too contrived a reason, or that the top ten isn't too played out. (I personally like the reveals and reading the comments, but that's just me.) Thoughts? Other more original vote thread ideas like GJones suggested are available.

I wouldn't mind it as once I'm sitting down to write end-of-year votes it wouldn't feel like an extra commitment to put a few Switch entries in there as well.

I'd hold fire on too many additional categories though unless you're also significantly cutting down the end-of-year votes (which I'd be fine with as I'll probably finish the year having played zero new releases which aren't on Switch).

I also wouldn't mind if it was just a extra thing as part of year end, along with all other normal awards.

It's probably also go for the five Extra Extra Switch awards, since we've got one yes (me) and one no (Buska) and nobody else seems to care, and obviously Buska doesn't have to vote for the extra categories if he doesn't want. If however other people say they'd rather just have the simple Top Ten Switch Games Ever then we'll go with that. Power to the people etc.

Just a Top Ten, which I do think should be done in March.
