| On paper, I should like Rocket League as I like football and cars but it's never clicked with me. I've got a feeling it's because I was playing for review before it came out on PS4 and everyone was rubbish at it and just wasn't fun.
I can totally see why it makes a Top 10 though. |

For me, the real story here is that Nintendo has fully embraced region-free. For a while it seemed, perversely, to be going the other way: its home consoles had never really liked it, but they scrapped it on the 3DS too. A reminder that, at times, the company we all love can be frustratingly backward.
Then came the Switch, and, like with so many other things, they only went and aced it. All games region-free, and you can easily access all regions' eShops. A massive improvement. Whether it's worth celebrating or not depends on whether you think Nintendo should have made the move at least a generation ago: regardless, it is a Very Good Thing, and we'll all be able to play (turns on private browsing) Doki Doki Majo Shinpan 3. Hooray!
As for the game itself, three out of four Monster Mash-ers voted in these awards, and it got three votes. Monster Hunter will never be without its fans around these parts, even while said fans have concerns out the wazoo. Apart from fan number three, apparently.

Nah all about Rei-Jin-G-Lu-P. MonHan always going to make the Top 10 and I feel like some of the others that it's a win for region free gaming especially for someone who did buy Double Cross, was given a American version of Binding of Issac and imported Seiken Densetsu Collection it has been great as well as buying most of my eShop games from the USA due to them being cheaper. |

Super Mario Odyssey (1/1/0) "Bear with me on this one, at launch the game had the high score challenges which were fun to compare, that skipping rope one got especially competitive. The bulk of my vote though goes to the new Balloon World mode, it hasn't been available long but I've already put quite a bit of time in to it and I can only see this getting more competitive once people figure out more on where they can be hidden."

Ladies and gentlemen, I present unto you the most flipping obvious award of all time! Dah-da-da-daaaaaaah. (blows the limpest of party horns)
But aye, it was always going to be MK8D, wasn't it? Only one out of ten people didn't include this in their votes. And Spla2n right after (although half the points behind), in echoes of that one Wii U vote I ran.
My personal favourite was Jackbox. Not as good a game as MK8, nobody would dispute that - but I reckon it's a better multiplayer game. You can get eight people 'round the telly, piddling themselves, for one thing. I'm especially surprised that we got anybody who came to Newcastle who didn't vote for this. Can only assume they literally piddled themselves and held a grudge. (12S got a couple of points off that meetup too, which is... nice? I suppose?)
The we've got Rocket League, the best football game I've played since ISS98; ARMS, not quite the smash hit Splatoon was last gen. but still with enough fans to place; and MHXX because Monster Mash is a thing and yer boys luuuuuuurve the monsters. Some launch efforts, the odd Mario game, Sega offerings, and the most stressful culinary experience known to man round out the votes.
The Switch is a killer machine for multiplayer, especially local. It'd be that only with Mario Kart, but with everything else, it's magic. Also, what is it with you lot and vagina synonyms?
Phew. Tomorrow: placings eight and seven!

| This might be a silly question but how can a game with 12 points not be 5th but two with less points are, is the system weighted that 1st places / amount of voters are worth more than actual points? |

 Not a clue how you arrived at that conclusion. I've played a fair bit of it on PC and it's the same game on Switch. I don't see how you could see RL on Switch as a downgrade, unless you're a massive fan of rain effects in games in which case Breath of the Wild better be your number one. As for the votes! 9th place: Damn straight! It would have been higher if the whole Mash quartet were involved this time round, I'd imagine. Multiplayer vote: I think that was more or less my top five charting there, but it's a testament to the great line-up of multiplayer titles that I was checking out the honourable mentions and was thinking "yeah, that could have placed" for a fair few of them. |

| The framerate on RL Switch is the same as the other versions the visuals have taken a hit but it doesn't look awful, also this patch is coming if you prefer to have that visual quality over 60 fps. ---- - Balladeer wrote:

| I did my votes purely based on the All Software section of my Switch & refused to vote for games I'd played on other systems. Blame me owning it on PS4!
As for Mario Kart, I really enjoyed it as a single player game. Barely played the multiplayer. |

| I'm playing Snipperclips and Overcooked the now, and, aye, they're definitely multiplayer games. Snipperclips' cleverness is still there in single player, but Overcooked just doesn't work on your tod. I'd definitely think that they'd be class with other folk though. |

Bit of a mixed bag there in the comments, and that's reflected in the way ARMS got into the Top Ten: five votes, all between 3 and 6 points. People enjoyed Nintendo's big new idea, but it wasn't without its foibles.
That said, ARMS remains another one in the eye (delivered from across the room) for those who'd protest that Nintendo gets by on old franchises alone. Having tried out the online shooter with the Wii U, it went with the Tekken-alike fighter on the Switch, and definitely delivered to an extent. All the while showing developers who would sell 'games as services' exactly how that should be done: with a wealth of free updates.
I never played it, I must admit: seemed a bit sparse at launch, and I'm not really a traditional fighter type. But I'm glad it placed. Developers should be rewarded for trying new things, as well as building on established formulae.

The comments say it all. It's hard. Perhaps not spiky hard, but hard. For muggins 'ere, who likes to relax with a game at the end of the day, it sounded too hard. I never got far into World 2.
That may well be a shame. From what I did play, the game is downright charming, and - dare we admit it (we do, we did) - the Rabbids are pretty good. They've been compared to the intermittently amusing Minions, but from what I played, that's unfair. They make the Mario characters funny too, by association - even bland boy Mario, in a moment in that video I posted above.
Thinking about it, M+RKB pairs surprisingly well with its co-seventh placer. It's just as off the wall as ARMS, in its way. Who could have predicted at launch that the Switch's top ten would feature a 'proper' fighter and a hardcore strategy game? And yet, here we are. What a wonderful world we live in.

| Ah, pleasantly chuffed to see Rabbids there. I don't think I'm alone in wondering how carefully Ubisoft would handle Mario and his pals, but I knew the game was in safe hands after seeing how passionate the game director was at E3 during the game's official reveal.  |
