Summer Directs 2022

Yeah I'm a bit of a hypocrite with two of the three remakes shown as I feel RE4 doesn't really need one as it still plays great, the story is fine for a res evil, and I feel the ONE/PS4 remaster looks good still then might have improvements if played on a Series/PS5. Yet I know peeps like CW who've only played remakes of 2&3 want 4, that I can see why.

Then on the other, I look at The Last of Part I, which I'm baffled why out this year and not 2023 for the 10th anniversary & HBO Show release. Yet I'm like yeah can improve character animations, gameplay, add in some story stuff makes sense to remake. Might also be down to the sort of game where highly story driven that better animations means can tell the story better etc.

Where System Shock is just old now.

Today as well at 11pm will be a 20mins PlayStation State of Play focusing on Japanese games.

Tomorrow RGG have what they're calling a summit, Yakuza Like a Dragon 2?

Then TGS starts on Thursday which Capcom, Konami, SEGAtlus etc all have events during the few days.

Plenty of shows all week.

Are you doing this now because the September Direct is usually the one after E3, so it will mean E3 is officially over?

Do you reckon we'll get Rebirth any time soon though, Mas? I'm not saying we won't, I genuinely have no idea.
I'm with you and Jas, I really think a remake can only hurt Resi 4 while SS is interesting.

More posting as Nintendo and PlayStation both having shows on the same day both also announced 24hrs before them happening, that till then didn't know about them to post. Then also TGS this week, which some of you might not have known about, unless you're going Buska as it's in person again. So really stuff now happening this week, get excited and may as well use this thread.

On that question, well we know Crisis Core Reunion is this Winter so Dec 22 -Feb 23, then FFXV is Summer 23, and ReBirth is next Winter Dec 23 - Feb 24, but I can see it being the big March 2024 game though. I then would have to guess Part III is like March 2025, which might sound mad only a year later, but they're working on them both side-by-side.

Also Square have Kingdom Hearts IV to fit in somewhere that Nomrua is behind.

See I'm pretty on board with 4 remake. I think people defend 4 a wee bit too much, there's some simple things like the static shooting and left stick aim that could really do with an update at minimum. Of course there's got to be the fear after it sounded like 3 was a bit botched, but that was a rush job and for new folk like me it was good fun.

Because RE4 is a masterpiece, sure aged in places but like saying why isn't Citzen Kane in 4K.

I'm all for the 4 Remake, it's gonna feel very different to the original I think, looks a lot darker to the point it'll probably resemble the 2 Remake and so can be treated as a separate thing altogether.

State of Play was good, nothing super special but it didn't have 20 farming games.

Odd though it's now Like a Dragon Ishin and not Yakuza. Maybe more info today at RGG summit.

Well, a quick google tells me that ryu ga gotoku (the Jpn name for the Yakuza series) always meant Like a dragon.

I think they did a Resident Evil: Biohazard thing with it where in the West it's Yakuza: Like a Dragon and in Japan its Like a Dragon: Yakuza.

Maybe they just want to separate them so they can go back and do more action-focused Yakuza games?

Maybe they did do that with Yakuza LAD much like Resident Evil 7 Biohazard. Even the two names didn't stick as just went back to just Resident Evil with Village.

All three games announced yesterday are called Like A Dragon now here, and going forward that's the name. You've got a remake coming of Ishin, Gaiden which is a spinoff that's about Kiryu after 6 to help new players who started with Yakuza LAD, and LAD8 was the big one for 2024.

I think it's probably due to the fact the series is moving away from the Yakuza, plus Ishin obviously predates the Yakuza, so with 3 games in the series on the horizon with little Yakuza focus I think it's a good time to make the change.

They should have done that with Resi too then - hardly any of them are about a residence, but they're all about biohazards!

Sure, they probably should, I guess the difference there is the wider impact, people have heard of Resi.

Think that is also the thing, didn't Yakuza Like a Dragon do very well, that I can see why you would want to continue on with the LAD name.
