It's a shame to see Smith go, doctors don't seem to have much of a shelf life these days. I was hoping he'd run and run. As it is though, this most recent series has seen me drifting away from Who, to be honest. I still enjoy it when I catch it, but I can't get excited about the monster of the week plots any more.

A good shout I saw on Twitter was Damien Molony, who played Hal in the last couple of series of Being Human. Is it sad that I'm more keen on seeing the regeneration scene than who the new Doctor is going to be?

Actually, don't answer that. Winky Face

I agree with you Zero, at the end of the day the actor is going to be someone who I've never heard of before (unless it's Stephen Mangan, which would be awesome).

Well this sucks, Matt Smith's Doctor is my favourite incarnation so far. Ah well, all good things come to an end, really what I wish most is that the second half of series seven hadn't been such a clunker. Outside Moffat's two episodes and the Tardis episode it was kind of a pants series. Still, onwards and hopefully upwards.

I just hope they don't do this splitting in half thing for the first series of the next Doctor, it just won't work well. The Doctor is a big role and it takes time to properly establish him, a full series at once is the only way I can see it not being a trainwreck. Clara was underbaked and she was only a companion.

Whatever happens next year I'm still excited about this year, Matt still has both the fiftieth and the Christmas special, and to cap it off we'll be getting a regeneration in the fiftieth year of Doctor Who, while I wish Matt had stayed on for maybe one more year (I bet most people think that about their favourites though) having a regeneration this year is a nice consolation.

Well this is certainly more interesting than Knitting Gate from yesterday.  Waking up and being told to check the news to find Giillard has thrown the gauntlet down once again, and Rudd has just confirmed he will be challenging.  And to spice things up both of them have pledged they will be quitting politics should they lose, so this is a genuine bonafide Fox only on Final Destination.  Two hours time can't come soon enough.

Actually I think Rudd could pull off the impossible and win this election.  Abbott has not once during his term as opposition leader actually been credible in policies and alternatives, and so far he has been coasting off of the hatred towards Gillard.  Rudd is very popular, and not just popular, he is an expert at campaigning and selling a message.  At the very least I believe with Rudd as a leader we have a chance at seeing this election turn in to an actual contest about policies and he will mitigate a vast amount of the lead Abbott has.

And Abbott's one point these last three years has been trust.  And the simple reality is I trust him and his party as much as I trust a pathological liar.  A Liberal leader from the Howard era banging on about trust honestly makes me chuckle a bit.  If we can't trust anything Labor and Gillard says how can we trust anything he says?  I'm not a fan of the Gillard government, but I cannot stand the Abbott led Liberal party.

Yeah possibly.

But a part of me think that they will have Rudd in before the election to win it and when thing go sour they will give him the boot again like last time

Honestly I think he'll be here until the end this time. Even if he doesn't win he will at least help them keep seats Gillard will lose them, and at this point I think they're strictly after damage control. It's more a personal hope of mine that he will pull of a miracle, but I'm not going to rule out he might win.

And Gillard is as good as gone. Shorten has switched sides, no way in hell she's winning this ballot now. I thought this was what he would be announcing, he seems pretty upset so I don't think he switched sides with any pleasure.

And that's that.  Kevin Rudd is once again the leader of the Labor Party.  Wayne Swan, Stephen Conroy, and another big player have all resigned from the cabinet.

And honestly it will sound snotty of me but I don't personally put much stock in what commercial channels say and I feel they gloss over the facts to be sensationalist, so I prefer the ABC myself.  But even they seem to rule out a Labor win, which I think is a big mistake.  Labor may not win, but at the same time ruling out a win to me seems to be a little silly.  The English were supposed to turn on Thatcher's party once she was thrown out yet they still won from what my mother has told me, and Kevin Rudd has proven himself to be a excellent campaigner before this.  So I believe the next few months are going to be very interesting, and very unpredictable.

After all, nobody expected Abbott to be a good opposition leader.  And as far as I can tell his lead in the polls is entirely born of Labor ripping itself to pieces rather than him doing anything.  All he has had to do is keep his mouth closed and watch the fireworks.  Now that Rudd is back in I suspect we will see Labor going on the attack, and I will be very interested to see how the Liberals go once they for the first time are actually placed under some scrutiny.

In case you've been living under a rock/don't give two dungpiles, Murray won the Wimbledon men's singles (first British man for 77 years etc. etc.) and Marion Bartoli won the ladies'.

What I'm really chuffed about is Bartoli's victory. She was the only non-blonde in the semis; stocky, comparatively unattractive, quirky; none of which should matter, but in a world of advertising contracts and model-shaped top seeds (Sharapova springs to mind), it seems to. And she won. Bravo to her, and John Inverdale is a cock.

Interesting that both finals were straight setters this year. Both second-placers had fought really well elsewhere and just fell apart in the final. You have to wonder how Djokovic would have done at full strength. Lisicki too, to a lesser degree.
