Aaaaaaah, that's fair. You can get other tonics, but if you've found something that works for you as a mixer, may as well use it. For me, I actually like tonic water: it's not quite as cloying as other soft drinks. See bakewell vodka dilemma above.

The alternative is trying normal tonic with sloe gin or something, which is sweet and delicious itself.

A gin and tonic is my go-to, but I'm not a fan of either gin or tonic water on their own.
I will say, generally the choice of gin has a much bigger impact on the flavour than the choice of tonic.

THE TRIFECTA

An Asahi, a Kirin and a Sapporo at the summer festival with Rob (also some peach chu-hi)

Highight of the night was when a group of girls all smiled and waved and said hi to me and ignored rob and he got insecure about it ad spent the rest of the night pointing out girls who looked at him and exes and stuff, but i genuinely didn't even notice they paid any more attention to me than him

What is this 'chu-hi' you speak of? It's peach-flavoured, and therefore it automatically sounds like it might taste nice to me.

As for me, I've actually started to use the subscription to the Wine Society I got as a present. Last week I got my first big box of wine, and yesterday we had our first bottle of it!

It was rubbish. Sulk

I wouldn't have expected much from a wine subscription service, to be fair!

Let us know how you get on with The Wine Society please. I've been thinking about using them for a while - they've got some very decent Riojas on their website for better prices than I'm paying for them in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

I'll come back with reports! My parents use them all the time with glowing praise, but they can afford better bottles than I can. Thus far we've got one modest failure and one modest success out of one of their cheapest boxes. Bear in mind that you're paying for the wine as well as for the subs.

Over the weekend I came to the conclusion that out of orange juice, gin, sloe gin, and Chambord, Chambord just edges it from the point of view of, 'things to put in a prosecco to make it nicer'.

I also came to the conclusion that I shouldn't have followed all that up with most of another bottle of wine. Ow.

Stick Chambord in anything fizzy, that's what I used to do when I was my pub's "mixologist". Following cocktails up with wine is a rookie mistake though. 😵

It's a damn good recipe. Unlike, as you say, proseccocktails and wine. We watched a film that night and I struggle to remember any of it.

Ginger and Honey Lemsip > normal Lemsip, which was a pleasant surprise. Granted, I'd rather not have had to drink either...

Nearly all of my worst nights out have involved me mixing wine with another drink. It's never ended well and I should have learned better by now. Laughing

One of my mates subscribes to the philosophy that "eating's cheating", but bugger that for a laugh - I cannot drink on an empty stomach without sorely regretting it the next day.

Why would you not want not to be ill the morning after?  People with that attitude honestly boggle my mind - like getting as smashed as possible is the only thing worth trying for on a night out. Meh

Anyway I came home and had an M&S toad-in-the-hole and felt better.

I understand the appeal in feeling a bit buzzed - especially if karaoke is on the cards because I will 100% need that liquid confidence - but yeah, mind-boggling as to getting drunk for the sake of getting drunk.

Oh, I can explain it for you easily from my own experience in one word

D Star E Star P Star R Star E Star S Star S Star I Star O Star N

At first you drink because other people are drinking. Then you drink because being a little drunk makes things more fun. Then you drink because you have good memories and you think getting that drunk is the only way to recreate them. Then you drink that much because it's a habit. Then you forget why you were doing it and getting drunk becomes the objective. Then finally you're drinking because you have nothing else to make you forget about your life for a while.

You've both stumbled upon my philosophy, well done.

I was looking at Drunkllly's message there, and I spent a good thirty seconds wondering what the fuck DE RESSIO means.

The Lady bought me a tea advent calendar and yesterday I had matcha tea. It matches up with all the other times that I've had matcha tea in that it's awful. Sick Seriously, who likes this stuff?

1) I doubt you've had real Matcha in an advent calendar or anyone else in the UK
2) it is supposed to be enjoyed slowly, meticulously and with ceremony
3) matcha is best enjoyed with an accompanying sweet.

I actually had a matcha flavoured chu hi last weekend, and im enjoying a strawberry pocky one right now

1. Probably right.
2. I tried to do the whole ceremony thing, but it was so filthy that I had to down it.
3. The guide I found from the sellers suggested putting honey in it to taste. I tried without and with. It was filth either way.

I'll rewrite the question: who actually likes readily-available-in-England matcha?
