I never read his books, I'm afraid, so I can't comment.

Tell you what I can comment on: the Internet vs. the Daily Mail, i.e. kicking the asshats when they're not quite down enough.  The backlash against the Mail's labelling of Ed Miliband's father as "evil" would have been hilarious, were it not for the fact that the Mail is the second-most read paper in the UK. Sad

And annoyingly, the most read news website in the world, so it's not like we can go "but newspapers aren't relevant any more", either. (Although to be fair, the relevance of that achievement is strictly debatable for a range of reasons)

I like to think of them as the Wasp's Cake of the news media- if there was no one paper keeping all the right-wing mentalists in their own little box away from everyone else then they'd be more thinly spread out over the rest of the media, which would be a much worse state of affairs.

RIP indeed, I haven't really had much experience with what he's done since it was mostly done before my time but I do know he did a lot of good for his nation and the world and he will be missed.

Sad news indeed. Someone's made a presentation at work which we have to show at the start of our lessons - it's quite moving.

Sad to see the man go, but after the life he led, passing away quietly at 95 with his family is a happy ending, I think.

Also, some nutters on the Daily mail website already doing conspiracies; specifically that he died months ago and they withheld the news until his film was out.

Presumably they're annoyed that their editor isn't allowing them to write articles in support of apartheid, and are taking the next best option.

Next thing, you won't be allowed to separate white paper and black ink. They'll just be pages and pages of grey sheets.

Yes, I'm aware this story is probably B.S., but that headline's amazing.

EDIT: Oh noes, here's a photo.....  :affraid:

"The roof was damaged and one of the cows was injured". Much though I'd like to imagine that this was because they were supercows who don't afraid of anything, I think it was more likely to be a really tiny explosion.

Pikachu is Japan's official mascot for the World Cup this year.

Half expecting a giant Meowth balloon to appear over one of the stadiums now.

This also seems to be my 3000th post, so because I'm not feeling creative like Balla and Mas (essays all weekend have sapped me of creative energy) have a football related Pikachu picture.

I just put a .gif in my 3000th. Anyway, I'm hoping that this is leading up to a new Wii U Pokémon game (RPG, rather than Pokken), and that this is Nintendo's marketing ploy to get people to buy it. But I'm probably wrong. Sad

Coming soon: Pokémon Soccer! Catch and train a team of eleven Pokémon to win the World Cup! Grin

DIGRESSION ALERT: If this were a real game, it'd be like Inazuma Eleven but for Pokémon. And the ball would be a Voltorb. The sad thing? I would buy Pokémon Soccer.

I would go batshit for pokemon football. I was just thinking the other day that being a football manager is the closest thing in real life to being a pokemon trainer.

That was my first reaction, but then I remembered the variable quality other Pokémon spin-offs, especially Pokémon Dash. it could be great if done correctly (get Camelot in!), but probably wouldn't be.
