Things That Really !&$%2 You Off

So today I found out why the pharmacy haven't texted me to come and pick up a new preventer inhaler. It's because the doctor's have withdrawn my prescription, as I haven't attended an asthma check-up, which they left a couple of messages on my phone about. The reason for that is that I feel my asthma is well-managed and I would rather the resources go to someone more in need. So I'm going to make an appointment to see the asthma nurse tomorrow and talk to them about how I feel.

I've had very similar issues myself. I was then told off in the asthma clinic for not getting my inhalers often enough - because they cut off the prescription and I had to wait weeks for the damn clinic!

Transformers: The Last Knight is out in a week or so, and I've been trying desperately to avoid seeing anything that might spoil any of it but adverts are starting to creep up on me on youtube, on television, on bus stops, there are toys in stores . . . there's no escape!

Overall, I've enjoyed the sun as I don't start my new job for a week yet. That said, when I've tried to do anything - go for a run, write, play ARMS - I'm doubly useless.

It has been somewhat wretched. I suffered a bit on the walk home, because there's a long-ish steep-ish uphill stretch with little to no shade... and I'd decided to go shopping. Still, I feel duty-bound to appreciate it while it lasts... by making lots of progress on DQVII, indoors, with the fan on.

I have no fan, no air-con, nothing but an insulated wooden-floored room and what breeze I can get through the windows. I'm a miserable pile of sweat.

Don't be fannies. I'm still wearing my Big Winter Jacket up here in Aberdeen. It's a heatwave here if I get to wear just the two layers of clothes to work.

It's too hot and upstairs is unbearable and basically I don't sleep properly when a heat wave and the days therefore don't have a break between them and time loses all meaning and I go a bit mad and if I get fired at any point in my career it will be now

One of our cats hasn't come home the last two nights
We're assuming he's just staying cool somewhere (he's the one we don't see much of anyway, while his brother thinks he's a dog).

Also, Gus cat thinks he's a dog. He enjoys the game of Fetch, which he plays with Comic Relief red noses, and he is also aggressive towards Beatrice cat on and off, for no reason that Jo and I can spot.

I've been not well the past few days....so yeah that.

Scruff rarely leaves the house, he follows you around meowing, he throws himself at your feet and rolls around waiting for fuss. Smudge disappears all day every day, normally coming in for his dinner and sleep. I'm assuming he's just gone and found himself somewhere cool and doesn't want to walk home in this sun. He tends to feed himself elsewhere anyway.

Nothing major it's just affected my sleeping pattern overall but I think I'm through the worst of it, hope your cat arrives back safely.

Bad news all round then. Hope Jas gets better, Jimbob gets some sleep, and Drunka gets his cat back. I've been becoming more and more of a cat person of late. All the best.

In other news on this thread: institutionalised sexism. The girlfriend and her (female) manager had a meeting with an all-male team from outside her organisation, and not to put too fine a point on it, they were sexist shitheads. Something they absolutely wouldn't have got away with if they weren't raised in a culture that taught them such a thing was acceptable. So !&$% institutionalised sexism, !&$% the culture that allows it to grow, and !&$% in particular anyone who tries to dismiss/excuse such a thing as 'just banter'.

Can't argue with that one.

Yeah, that seems embarrassing in 2017. Not that I'm sticking up for that behaviour or anything - sometimes people go for this as "entry level banter" - i.e. they don't know enough about the people they're talking to to be able to create any other sort of social relationship, and aren't clever enough to think harder, rather than automatically being sexist. I ended up sitting with our sales department at last year's Xmas do, and they all see each other once a month at most; their jokes at each other were a bit "insert name here". Anyway, no excuse; try harder, human males.

Lighter note - great news about Smudge! I've been in this situation a couple of times before myself (one win, one loss) so I had a rough idea of how you may have been feeling, Drunka.

Yes - our cats don't go outside (unless they sneak out whilst I'm putting the bin out, at which point I grab them and take them back into the house).

Follow-up to the above: two of the people in that meeting are being suspended, and their organisation is launching an investigation.

So glad that those actions have had consequences. Fingers crossed there are accurate findings and appropriate responses.

Less serious note: it's suddenly become Too Hot again this evening. Only my cat doesn't give a shit, and wants to sit on a blanket on my lap. I didn't have the heart to move her, as she's an old lady, but I've now got so hot my eyes keep misting up. Please excuse any spelling mistakes.
