It might just be that I got used to the controls, but whilst I remember struggling at first, I wasn't by the end. As far as modes go, I sunk a hell of a lot of time into the 3ds one because it was so convenient. I was commuting for an extra hour a day, so I did every mode with every character pretty much. On the Wii U I'm setting up a console & TV for something that's only a little more in depth than the 3DS version, plus I've got all sorts of other, more immersive single player games I could be playing. If it was 10 years ago, Smash Wii U would've topped my list no questions asked, it just doesn't fit anywhere into my life with more money/less time.

Eh, that's fair. As a Nintendo-only gamer who's willing to put the time into Smash, I found the Wii U game better - if you've got less time, especially if you've got a commute, I can see why it would go the other way, for convenience's sake anyway.

On remasters we have to agree to disagree as I just went for I thought was the 10 best games be it a new or old and I reckon we do this again Twilight Princess is in my Top 10.
Great Number 1 in Splatoon (it got more votes), I didn't go for Kart mainly same reasons as SMASH as it's good but not favourite genres and better in the series.

If I were doing it on that basis, I'd probably have given the first place to MK8. It got fewer votes, but the people who liked it liked it more on average than Splatoon.
But I'm not, and I'm glad I'm not because having these two first places is possibly the best outcome.

I disagree, but it's utterly academic because that's not being used as a criterion anyway. You wouldn't decide a drawn Premier League game on possession, and we're not deciding this on vote numbers. Two superb games came joint top, which is a brilliant outcome: that's all there is to it.

Not so sure I'd rank Splatoon that highly honestly. It's good, but it's also extremely barebones. The skeleton of a all-time great rather than a fully formed one. It's basically got Smash 3ds syndrome, very good game, but it needs a fair bit more meat on it. Can't comment on Kart as I've yet to get that one although if it's as fun as Wii with better gameplay and visuals it probably deserves its spot.

Five points: New Super Mario Bros. U (two votes) - "At this stage we were all sick of 2D Mario games, I know. And the similarity to the Wii predecessor didn’t help (Grass world Desert world Water world Ice world Haunted/swamp world Mountain world Sky world Lava world; everybody join in). But it is still Mario; and shiny HD Mario to boot. That Luigi DLC took the piss though." "Why did this game revive the NSMB franchise for me? Probably a combination of more varied and interesting level design (world five stands out) and Miiverse support. Encouraging me to draw my experiences at the end of each level, while most of my friends list was doing likewise, did wonders for this game."
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze - "An old-school platformer that’s as solid as DK’s abs, with a soundtrack to die for. David Wise, stand up – you’re a big reason that this game’s where it is in my list." Knytt Underground - "Some other f***er better have voted for this. [Erm.] This is a beautiful sprawling exploratory adventure (in fact it could be described as a 2D walking simulator, is it not for the mega-tough puzzle platforming). It features both dark humour and genuinely sad moments, a beautiful ambient soundtrack and the Nifflas trademark “big foreground things and silhouettes” art-style. It’s so frickin’ subversive and fourth-wall-breaking as well. I won’t spoil the ending for you… I’ll let the game do it instead."
Four points: Yoshi's Woolly World (two votes) - "It suffers when placed alongside the game it imitates, but it’s magnificently irresistible to look at and to play. Nice use of amiibo adds to it’s charm."
Spin the Bottle: Bumpie's Party - "While Game and Wario has a couple of great games for just a Gamepad, and Nintendoland had games for people who were used to gaming, spin the bottle is a party game in the truest sense of the word. No need to sit and stare at a TV, no need for previous gaming experience: just mad party games played with human beings and Wii Remotes. I've never laughed harder." Thomas Was Alone - "The platforming is a bit rubbish, the puzzles are rather simple but by the end you will care abut those shapes so much"
Three points: Devil's Third
Two points: Captain Toad Treasure Tracker (two votes) - "A nice little surprise. Nothing ground breaking, but after the Captain Toad levels in 3D World being so naff I was blown away but how much they could squeeze out of the formula. Really fun all the way through." "For making at least one amiibo useful. For being a charming puzzle game. For having surprising depth. For feeling like a 3D version of Nintendo's old single-screen games, like Donkey Kong and Wrecking Crew."
Need for Speed: Most Wanted U - "The speed, control, character and imagination make this the best in the Need for Speed series. This is a bloody brilliant game." Rodea the Sky Soldier
One point: Affordable Space Adventures - "Sticking a Nifflas story and a Knapnok control scheme together was a great idea. Definitely the best use of the game pad we have (and will get, probably.) Wonderful, grim sense of humour as well. Only its length stops it from being higher up my personal list." Game & Wario - "This game got absolutely lambasted on release for the crime of not being a Wario Ware game. It might not be that, but it is one of the most fun multiplayer experiences on the machine. If all you own is one gamepad, you cannot have more fun than gathering a few friends, pouring some booze and whacking on Islands, or Art. Phenomenal. Plus, Gamer is one of the best Wario Ware experiences out there."
My thoughts on the remaining votes:
HW coming up just short. Nobody (who voted for it) voted it lower than fifth, but nobody voted for it higher than fourth either. In the end, it didn't quite have enough fans to muscle in on the top ten - no top ten game had fewer than four votes for it. HW is still obviously a much-loved game though, among a select few anyway.
Interesting to see Guacamelee!, the eShop vote-topper, edged out by SK in these votes. But in twelfth and thirteenth place, there are, in my opinion, two of the eShop's other most solid offerings. I put them at three and four in my own votes, but they got overlooked by most in favour of some of the big retail games.
And then things get messy. Lots of good games, lots of them not quite good enough to make a lasting impact (and one angry protest vote for Knytt Underground, kudos to the staying power of the voter who's kept that futile flag flying throughout). The only game I'm really surprised to see ranking so low is Nintendo Land, but if you don't play much local multiplayer, you won't enjoy it really.
And DKCTF was robbed, again. Robbed by basically everything. Dat soundtrack though.
Five Stage 2 STAR COMMENTS:

Paintball may not excite hardcore shooterists but slap on the genius idea of allowing your characters to speed through the ink it's just sprayed ranks as one of Nintendo's most simple-yet-genius idea since the ability to turn Link into a painting in A Link Between Worlds. Fab stuff."

Gutted for Hyrule Warriors knowing that bloody Mario Maker placed. That game is a pure joy to play! If you've not played it, regardless of your thoughts on DW, you should check it out. It's also another display of Nintendo DLC done amazingly.

Good Miiverse implementation can make a game – it raised NSMBU beyond being “just another New Super Mario Bros. game”, and it’s the only plausible reason for Game & Wario not having been deleted from existence."
Satoru Iwata – "How can I not mention this bloke? Was he the driving force behind the Wii U? Probably. Did he bring its games to hilarious life in his Nintendo Directs? Definitely."
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed – "It’s easy to overlook the technical flaws as it’s such good fun. Preceeded by Mario Kart 8 in very thinkable way though."
Sonic Lost World – "Not all of it’s pieces fit, but I still call this the most underrated game on the Wii U."
Splatoon – "Seems excellent fun, but I’ve never taken it online. I’ve missed out, so this misses out on my top ten."

Animal Crossing amiibo Festival – "Irredeemably dull. Bored Game."
E3 2015 – "Badly put together, and most of the big surprises were for 3DS anyway. It couldn’t have said “winding down” more clearly if there had been another interminable Mario Maker segment spelling out “WINDING DOWN” in coins."
Game & Wario – "Massively disappointing, and an early tell-tale sign that nobody – not even Nintendo – really knew what they were doing with the Wii U and it’s GamePad."
The gamepad – "I’ve thoroughly enjoyed off-TV play, and having a map on the touch-screen is always handy; yet the list of games that make substantial and rewarding use of the gamepad is very slim. My thoughts on the honourables and dishonourables:
I did a bad job of explaining this. I was hoping that people would discuss other bits of Wii U culture that couldn't factor into Best Game and Worst Game votes. Instead there were a lot of also-rans from Stage 2 and the Cr@p Games award. I said as much in-thread, but the post probably got lost in all the other discussion. Sorry for not being clearer.
We got some good quality wordage nonetheless, with the dishonourables being of their traditional high quality. I'm going to give STAR COMMENTS to the stylus one, for getting at what I meant despite my lack of clarity; and the ACaF one, for being a terrible pun. Which is appropriate for a terrible game.

The Grand Star Award for Most Star Comments You may have noticed I've been awarding these to my favourite comments, and now they have a purpose! Of sorts. And it's another tie, with Jimbob and ZeroJones splitting this award on four STAR COMMENTS each! Congratulations too to Drunka, Athrun, Jas, Cappa, and Andy, each of whom got at least one. Have you only played Splatoon in single player? As many said it was barebones when it launched (which it was in a MP sense) but with all they added to it since then it's anything but barebones now, I voted it top because not only is it the most fun I've had with a game this year it's the most fun I've had on the wii U.

As much as the rotation bugged me sometimes I don't think I'd like them to deliver the maps/modes in the standard way as you'd not only lose that surprise of what will you be playing today but also & more importantly it splits up the player base as more folk would stick to ranked matches only etc.
So currently the only thing I'd like them to change is add more than 2 maps at time into the rotation.
