Oh look, Jim Sterling gave NES Remix a 4/10 and called it a 'cold-hearted cash grab, seemingly spat out just so the Wii U has something on its eShop this holiday season. There is the cash grab side to it, I fear, but "a stuttering, stunted selection of nothingness" is simply bollocks, reaction-craving horsefaeces of the lowest order. If you've grown up with Nintendo games or are invested in retro, there's nothing finer. I can't sing NES Remix's praises highly enough (passed puberty, see).

I quite like some of Jim Sterling's Jimquisition stuff, but I've never agreed with one of his reviews yet.

That said, I love the game, but I can see why some would find the presentation lacking.

He's far from anti-Nintendo, especially if you watch this piece on why the Wii U won the next gen console launches (link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OzoB4lHBK8):

I do tend to disagree an awful lot with some of his work, though. Particularly one video bashing *all* in-game purchases. A distinction must be made between those games where in-game purchases or monetisation leads to a game becoming a 'money game', and those which are harmless (like GT6 and Bravely Default). Unfortunately he did not make such a distinction, which made the whole piece seem like a self-entitled gamer.

This happens a lot, where it's almost as if he's battling to consumer rights, where the 'consumer' is the self-entitled gamer. In these cases a balanced view does not emerge, but perhaps that is the point.

EDIT: I think Beemoh explained what I meant above quite well.

I hadn't heard of this before I heard you lot recommending it to me last week on Twitter. I cannot wait to give it a go, but sadly it'll have to wait 'til I get paid next week.

^this.

That in particular is a wide problem. People do seem to want to scream "anti-consumer" when actually they mean "a bit shit", and will often take a short-sighted view not realising that there is Better- both from a general and consumer POV- on the other side of losing something.

Oops, I meant "battling for consumer rights", but I'm happy you got what I meant.

Yeah, agreed on that as well. Especially when Jim Sterling has influence among parts of the gaming community (I hate using that term). One good example was a Jimquisition on microtransactions in Forza 5, where he makes it concrete that Microsoft are the villain who make $$$ of Xbox Live (because the console is sponsored by Mountain Dew and there's ads on Xbox Live), but deliberately holds back the other side of the argument, where the Xbox division is one that Microsoft bleeds money from (Android patent license fees are what counteracts that), and the games cost an awful lot to develop.

And, as mentioned previously, he didn't make a distinction between Forza 5's economy-altering microtransactions and GT6's, where race payouts and car prices (I hear) remain the same as GT5, instead lumping Sony in the same boat.

I have a feeling I'll be plugging away at this for a long time trying to get rainbow stars on everything.

It's the ultimate goal that I want to reach eventually, I think I'll take it easy for now & aim for the standard 3 stars.

The official Miiverse NES Remix contest (which I didn't even know was a thing) has been cancelled due to cheating.

Probably. That's what happens when you get your news from an American-centric site like NeoGAF :lol

Bit late to this party but how can it get a review score of 4/10. As far as download titles go on the WiiU it is by far my most played. I would love to see the entire history of videogames represented in this way.
Shame about the lack of leaderboards though. I want to show off my DK times....oh well.

I think I could look back on this more fondly if I knew we were getting a NES Remix 2 - or even a SNES Remix! - which featured all the games that really could have made an appearance here. I like this, but my enthusiasm definitely waned when I was unlocking the likes of Golf and Urban Champion. Really emphasised how rubbish Mario Bros. and Ice Climbers are as well.

I don't know what it is, but I have a feeling that the next thing in the series (if it's to be so) will be Game Boy Remix.

This is how I felt about NES Remix. Points for effort, certainly, and it really was lovingly presented, but how much fun I was having was relative to how great the core games were. Especially so given a lot of challenges are bits of games I've played to death over the years.

To be fair, I did overlook Cap's main point to push my own agenda. I apologise! Drama queen

Yes, you could easily list five great NES games that weren't touched. I'm busy unlocking the Bonus games and, despite my general love of retro, some of them should never have been released in the first place. Yes, I'm looking at you, Urban Champion. Aww!

Yeah, I was certainly more attracted to the games I liked with Balloon fight being a particular highlight for me but its a game that needs to pull on those nostalgia strings & if you haven't played or experienced one of the games properly then it won't have the same effect.

So because of that big misses for me were excitebike, wrecking crew.

Matthew Castle with his usual ace gaming skills.

I'm just getting into playing this. It's a perfect game to have on the gamepad while watching tv.

(Its not much of a surprise, the game has a link to the eShop after all.)

I did slightly better than Castle, but Mario Bros does control like absolute gash. I can't believe the Mario series lived beyond that game...

Oh, btw, at the start of the video...:

I'm actually pretty tempted to pick this up based on what you guys have mentioned on here. Would I be right in saying it has that 'one more go' effect to best your previous attempt?
