To say I've barely scraped the surface would be barely scraping the surface of how barely I've scraped the surface, but this is a huge and fun world of brilliant monsters and addictive gameplay which, if I could only find the time, I could absolutely lose myself in. Considering how little has been announced that I want to play in the first half of next year, I can see this being all I play on my Wii U and 3DS for the first six months of 2014.

I say: Whilst not being the biggest fan of Monster Hunter, I'll let you in on a secret: I've always wanted to be able to get into it. It must be awesome to take down massive beasties with on-line friends, or slowly improve what you can do and how you do it in the single player. One day I'll return to the Wii game, which sits sadly underused on my shelf, and make a decent fist/sword/bow of it. My experience of actual MH3U is limited to about ten minutes at a StreetPass Manchester event - at any rate, it's a worthy game to kick off the GNamer Forum Wii U First Birthday Vote!

Not quite as pure as the original game in my opinion, but a cracking arcade racer nonetheless with buckets of replay value and a satisfying upgrade system. Wreck It Ralph's inclusion, keeping in context of the film's story was an excellent bit of licencing, too.

I say: You can only echo smurfy's comment - Mario Kart 8 will have to pull something special out of the bag to beat this. Fast, beautiful, a huge amount of content to unlock and sheer fun. I found the game for something ridiculously cheap in HMV and thought, "Why not?" It blew me away. The transformations were well-handled, changing the game just enough each time, and the changing tracks were outstanding. The weapons were a bit hit and miss (arf) and there were some obscene difficulty spikes (the main reason I traded it in, sadly) but it still sets a fine standard.
